Thanks for going through the welding. I started with the carpentry on my build and I am fast approaching the only part left is welding. I welded a little bit in school 30 some years ago but never enough to say I could actually make something. Watching your little bit is helping me gain some insight to the process.

So.... It's been a while. Time has not been easy to come by but I have made some progress during the past year.

I've completed the frame!

Due to the very high price of torsion suspension in Canada, I stuck with good ol' springs. I did add a set of shock absorbers to try to take the bounce out of it.

I also completed the floor.

3/4" thick pine framed sheathed with 1/4" ply. I waterproofed the bottom with 6oz fiberglass cloth and west system epoxy resin. Painted black to protect it from those pesky reflected UV rays.

The best little helper in the world. Also most of the reason it is so hard to find time to work on the camper.

Image

Image
The underside of the floor after glassing. The seams are reinforced with an extra layer of glass cloth. Probably completely unnecessary.

Image
And the completed floor just before I flipped and bolted it down. I wasn't too concerned with a perfect finish being hidden and all...

Image
Underside of floor bolted to frame. Secured with 15x 3/8" 18-8 stainless carriage bolts with nylock nuts. Overkill? (not all installed in these photos.)

Glad to see you’re still plugging away.

Made some sawdust today and cut out the wall skeletons. I decided on a squaredrop shape to allow for a shallow kitchen to maximize the space for the 4 of us in the cabin, dog included.

I had a rare day off today and I had to choose between cleaning the garage or working on the trailer. I think it's obvious what I did. Try to ignore that awful mess. :)

You obviously don't know what a mess is. :frightened:

But your camper is looking great. It's something else to throw a wall up and have a look-see, eh?

Good choice and looks great!

I like the (wood/coal?) stove in the corner. We need something similar.

My first build was 64" wide x 10ft long inside and it was barely big enough for just me!- I will be watching to see how the room inside works out for you. Good luck to you this year on finding reasonable material prices.

Thanks. It was a good feeling to get the walls standing. I've been waiting for it to warm up a bit before continuing the walls to ensure the glue/epoxy cures properly. I hope to make some progress this month.

It's a small wood stove. It takes a while to heat the garage on a cold Nova Scotian winter day but does the job. Someday I'll replace it with a higher end stove.

I purchased a 5'x9' teardrop a few years ago and kept it long enough to realized I liked the concept. The one I purchased was a home build and heeeeaaavy. Two layers of 3/4" ply for the walls and floor. 2"x3" 3/16" frame, etc.

Space wise it was perfect for two but my 30 lbs daughter can take up a surprising amount of space. That's why we plan to put a bunk in this one. As she grows, I will eventually move into a small and quick to set up tent and let the girls have the comfort and security of the trailer. I have spent hundreds of nights in tents during my bike touring days and wouldn't mind hundreds more.

Its looking great, nice job on the frame.
I'll be done when I'm finished, if that's not fast enough, take a number.

Well, It's been quite some time once again. Life is.... busy.

Walls are complete and up, roof is insulated and glassed, electrical system is mostly done. Here are a few photos of the progress.

After completing the glassing of the roof, I routed a radius into the edges with the plan to reinforce it with fibreglass tape and hopefully prevent any cracking down the road.
I would prefer bi-axial tape, but I'm having the toughest time finding anything in Canada. The only tape I can find is very heavy (17oz?). I understand I could cut my own but I would need a very large amount of cloth to do this.

Does anyone have any experience rolling standard glass tape over a small radius with out it lifting? Any tips or tricks to do so?
