Sounds Fishy to Me

Found a 2007 Thor T@B TAB on one of the local Utah classified ads for $2000. I figured it wouldn't hurt to inquire about it so I sent a text. I received a reply with an email address to contact for more info, so I asked for details. I received a short reply with lots of pictures. It mentioned the husband was deceased, trailer brings bad memories and the kicker.... this person and their daughter moved to Madison, WI and the trailer is located there. Not to worry though as they would have it delivered to my address if I bought it. I sent a 2nd email stated that I hoped I had misunderstood about the trailer location and that I'd like to see it tonight. Her reply was that it was located in Madison, WI but we could complete the deal using an authorized third party like eBay. Some comments about having 7 days to inspect the trailer before any funds would be transferred. It's a real shame that I don't know anyone in Madison, WI. I'd love to try getting an address to have it checked out.

A few of the things that stood out to me.... Price $2000, that's less than 1/2 the trade in value. Too many personal problems.... husband was deceased, bad memories, moved to Madison, WI. The mention of using EBay as a 3rd party. The real kicker...having the trailer in WI but not having it listed for sale there. I guess all these issues could be legitimate but it just doesn't sound right to me.

Here's the local listing for those interested http://www.ksl.com/?nid=218&ad=35521203 ... b&ad_cid=1

It smells like rotten fish. If it were me, I would run from it.
I had similar scenario for a boat in my area, but funny thing, the same Craiglist ad run in many parts of the East Coast.

I agree too many things don't add up. As soon as they said it was out of state it dropped off the list. It would be sweet if I knew someone in that area (if they really are in Madison) that could check it out. I doubt they'd send me a valid address though.

After reading about half way through the OP I was thinking the seller must be based in Nigeria.

This is a classic scam. The eBay transaction is a dead giveaway.

Sounds like many craigslist scams I've read. I even have a check for $1250 for a used furnace I was selling for $150. "Oh, sorry, my assistant made a mistake when she cut that check. Just go cash the check, keep an extra $150 for your trouble and send me the rest in cash to this PO box". I don't know how many times I've responded to adds for pickups that I get a reply that the truck is in N Dakota and he was just deployed to Iraq, and this needs to be a quick transaction before he leaves the states...

Tell them your sister lives there and will come look at it for you and watch what happens.

Or better yet, tell them that you'll be in Madison next week. And because you work as a construction worker, you'll have your pickup truck with you. You will be happy to bring cash, and would like to pick it up ASAP so you can stay in it while on the job site.
