Do you know the Flyte Camp folks?

That thing belongs in a museum some place. It reminds me of the old wooden boats that have been restored and brought back to better than original luster Very nice, but far too pretty to camp in.

If the only original part of the trailer is the frame and axle, how is this considered a vintage trailer? A reproduction, perhaps. Yes, I know the title will list it as 1936 since the vin is on the frame. It just seems wrong to call it vintage.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a lovely reproduction. But what makes it vintage? It's kind of like melting down your great-grandmother's jewelry and remaking it. Yes it's pretty, yes it has value, yes it may actually be better than the original...but it's kind of confusing if it can be labeled as vintage.

I often have wondered that too Talia, I guess its a percentage thing. I knew someone who wanted to build a barn on the same spot and size as the old one which was falling down. Zoning said no, but she could rebuild the existing barn, it only needed 20% of the original barn and same foot print. Maybe it is the same when anything vintage is rebuilt as well?

But you can "buy it now" for only $60,000. Such a deal!

Absolutely stunning re-creation of a rare camper. But I re-read the listing a couple of times...did not see any mention of a title...and since every component except the frame is new manufactured, how can it be called a 1936? Maybe a 2015 re-creation. Another example of buyer beware. And $60K? Wish them good luck!

Some of you may not have found this, but Flyte Camp has a TV show on the GAC channel. They are based in Bend OR. I think they have done their run for the year, but it's called Flippin RV's. They pick up old trailers and do the restore on them and show the process or they redo something for a customer that wants some modifications done. They give a before and after pic and value on those that they turn. They are very proud of their work $$. They sent out an e-mail searching for unusual trailers about a year ago, looking for projects for the show. It's turning into a typical reality show. Their parts picker guy "just happens" to run into a perfect stove for a trailer that is the exact year and model they need. My favorite was when the picker just happened to find a piece of canvas sitting in someones yard that happened to be a tent for a 1948 Higgins tent trailer. That sort of stuff now happens regularly to them, however, I've yet to find anyone else that it happens to. They did pick up a Kit teardrop from the guy that owns Coker Tire, and dragged it back from Tenn. Regardless of all that, it's sort of a fun show to watch as they show different campouts, and it's the only vintage trailer thing on TV. Doug

I used to have occasional problems getting into private campgrounds when I had my 68 Scotty. Seems that they didnt want "classic" campers. Go Figure..
