Murphy Bed

Postby Tiredoldwhiteman » Sun Sep 18, 2011 5:46 pm

I'm quite impressed with this little TT and what y'all've done to it...

I'm also somewhat intrigued by the Murphy bed. However, I'm having the devil's own time getting my head wrapped around its workings. From the pix, it looks as though the hinges are below the height of the two side, rear seats/storage bins.

I'm assuming the mattresses fold up with the bed?

I'd like to duplicate the bed and any information (pictures too?) you can provide would be sincerely appreciated.

If you don't have the time of the inclination, I understand...

Regardless, I think y'all've done a fantastic job and I know you're enjoying the "Bugg" a great deal.

Many thanks...

RE: Little Gem Murphy Bed

Postby mezmo » Mon Sep 19, 2011 2:31 am

Hi Tiredoldwhiteman,

I too thought the Little Gem a great TTT and its Murphy style Bed a
surprise and ingenious. It is actually quite straightforward how they did it.
They basically stopped the seat base/box/cabinet short of the back wall
the correct distance and attached the bed/mattress fold-down base to the
rear side of the seat base/box/cabinet top with a couple of ordinary leaf
style hinges on each seat base/box/cabinet top. And also, the dinette table
is also hinged to the bed base so that it folds underneath when the bed is
folded down for use.

Here are a couple links I found when I first saw beverlyt's original post.

The first is her blog that documents the restoration. On the very last
page of 'older posts' [the first day's posting to it] it shows what I described
above:

The second link has some Little Gem brochures. It looks like they used
their murphy style bed on at least one other model of theirs [this is also
beverlyt's]:

'Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

P.S. I looked at the link with the brochures again and noticed there is a
specific link for a PDF on the bed. Here it is:

I knew it had to be a straightforward solution. I couldn't find the pix in the *.PDF file on the blog...Clears it up 100%.

Many, many thanks for helping me out...Yer uh gooood person, yez yew are...
