dreamin' of aqua boomerang laminate

Postby CASHCOW » Fri Jan 06, 2012 10:14 pm

well Mike and I found our Scotty. It is a 1971 Highlander. It needs alot of work to make her shine but we are hard at it. Does anyone know of any one or place that I can find some aqua boomerang laminate? I know it has been discontinued by Formica, but sure was hoping to find some to put into this trailer.

Good luck....I bought up a sheet in 2009, was able to order it from HD. I think the sky blue and charcoal are maybe still in production...why, I don't know...the aqua and coral were more in keeping with the vintage look. There may be a distributor out there that has a sheet in the warehouse, but it's gonna take some digging to find them. Same thing with some of the Marmoleum colors...they discontinued a lot of the nice old vintage looking ones.

I think I'd drop an e-mail to Formica and ask them what distributors of their product might have a sheet of it, or carries a backlog of materials. If they are willing to do it, they have records of who buys what and how much.

Also...just Google "formica distributors" you'll get a load of probable locations...just start sending e-mails. Doug

OUCH!@#$%&*@ that's a bunch...it used to be like 90$ on a 4x8 I think, got a receipt in a file somewhere.....I just can't figure out why they discontinued it..there aren't many vintage laminates out there, but there must not have been any market for it and the production costs must have been higher. From looking at all their samples, I can think of a whole lot of others that could have been dumped. Sorry, I used up my entire sheet on the Nomad. Doug

I buy it regularly from a local laminate supplier. Think it was something like $150-175 for a 4x8 sheet. I don't know if this helps as I am in Indy. I can check for you if you want to see if they say whether it has been dis-continued or not.
I think it has been about 8 months since my last purchase.

I have a Wilsonart number for it, G1728-60.

Found it in some 2010 samples, its not a current number and I haven't looked up availability (yet).....But!

Its not exactly the same stuff but its close. (maybe its time to start a new trend?)

I've dealt with Wilsonart for years and they always had more colors/patterns than Formica.

Hope this helps.

That's a great substitute Len...what I'd like to find is that old Crystal pattern that they used to have on the old kitchen tables and chairs back in the 50's, the ones with the extruded edging and chrome legs.

I just checked the Wilsonart site. They have 4 boomerangs under "custom laminate Indie collection". They also have a lot of other wild stuff. Doug

I'm in the planning stage of making one of my Out buildings into a Guest house and I'm looking for the same stuff.

I'm doing the building over in a 50's/Pee Wee's Playhouse motif.

Maybe not that WILD! BUT I do like the Rocket!

We had the aqua boomerang installed when we had our HiLander built in '10. They stopped building travel trailers about a year ago (still do horse trailer conversions), so I'll check with my warranty/repair guy up there to see if they have any extra laying on a shelf somewhere.

Coming a bit late to this discussion but I recently put up a page of retro laminates on my Scotty site: http://www.nationalserroscotty.org/reso ... inate.html at the bottom of the page is a link to the vintage style trim too.
