Wanderer 8/10 - tiny standy on HF trailer

Postby angib » Mon Jan 23, 2012 1:43 pm

The thread title more or less says it all. The Wanderer design is a tiny standy (just) to go on a 1720lb Harbor Freight 4x8 trailer with either an 8 foot or 10 foot long body.

Image Image

Laden weight as designed is only 1300-1400lb but the trailer is 78" wide by 83" high, so it's not an economical tow. But those who only tow 50-100 miles might prefer more comfort at their destination to easy towing.

This was inspired by the Wander Pup and Wander Bug designs in the Vintage Plans, hence the name.

10x6 or 7 is a very attractive footprint for those looking for a variety of layout options for a standee, slouchy, or otherwise camping-with-all-the-comforts-inside trailer.

Thanks, Andrew, for pointing the way toward creative solutions to building small trailers on a readily-available chassis. The wealth of detail you have shown on the plans is welcome and should give folks with less skill in design and construction the confidence needed to tackle a project of this magnitude. Congratulations.

Very nice, Andrew.

I glanced at your post previously but until today had not looked at the plans. This is a beautiful design in a small footprint.

Thank you for creating the design and posting it for our viewing and use.

Take care,
Tom

I am very interested in this design. I am hoping to do layout B on the 10 ft version, except I will have bunks in the front and a dinette in the back. I have an oddball popup camper frame that is 76" wide and 92" long. I am afraid that I will have to relocate the axle in order to make it work.

This design is the perfect tiny travel trailer. I am going to build this. I have already asked for clearance to start and have not received it yet. For you see Mary is not sold once again. :( I had her sold and now I am going to have to sell her on the Wanderer 8.

I will call my build " Second Build Wife Not Sold ---- YET!"
