I hear yah Doug!!

I did find one small patch underneath the rain eyebrow that was caulked ..livable. The roof was nicely coated with Henry's and looked real clean.

I brought a ladder to inspect.

Repairs were done around the vent and front window...but will probably redo to my liking.

Pretty clean and original.

Hey Dave,
Mindy and I are going to camp at the San Luis Basalt camp grounds after the holidays. Were thinking mid January. We checked this out on our way back from Buckskin AZ last week and they look nice and clean. It can get windy up there but , only one way to find out. It is on 152 between Gilroy and Los Banos. They have a beach area but I don't think that will matter too much in January. You have to drive to beach and fishing and boating at the reservoir is permitted.
Here is the info they put out. Soon we will put a date and hope that others will join us. We could call it the Tearjerkers Central/nor Cal winter campout. Ha Ha

San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area has four campgrounds: Basalt, San Luis Creek, Medeiros, and Los Banos Creek. All campgrounds are open year round.

Basalt Campground
The only campground located near San Luis Reservoir, Basalt has 79 developed family campsites in a shaded, wind-protected valley. Some sites will accommodate trailers and motor homes up to about 30 feet. Each site has a fire ring and table with water faucets nearby. New restroom facilities offer hot pay showers and flushable toilets. A dump station is available to registered campers. Reservations can be made year round.

Wanta try out that cool new rig ???

Hey Dave, do you all have a cat to go with the CatOLac?

I'd love to see the trailer, maybe after the first of the year?

Or pizza at Bronco Billy's before then

Hey Dano and Mindy!

Merry Christmas!!

Okay here is the skinny on San Luis Reservoir. On My 50th birthday I wanted to go to Los Banos!! WTH!!?? Yeah I know Los Banos, but they have an old school Basque Wool Growers family style restaurant there. Dawn and the kids humored we and we drove down there for the heck of it...bit of a drive...the food was good home style food wiht plenty of the basics and homemade wine. I liked it...maybe not worth the drive for just that.

On the way back we stopped at the reservoir visitor centers to use the bathrooms and do a little visiting. I then drove over and we checked out the same campsites your were refering too. I asked the park people if we could check it out. Nice little area...not many trees. The lake has no beaches and is just a reservoir...that is about it. I was thinking the same thing you were thinking...UNTIL we started to leave and stopped to talk to the park rangers. Both said the area tends to get overrun with the locals and they tend to have to call the police more than they would want. They said that they would not recommend it as a family campsite.

I was all high on it being a little get away like you were thinking about, now it is a no go. Dawn especially would not consider it after she heard what the park people said. :( :(

Well after that we did the circle come back up through morgan hill and stopped where Dawn grew up and back home to San Ramon. My special birthday adventure!!

I still want to do top of Mt. Diablo!! at the campsite up there..any ideas on other places are welcome also.

I keep the catolac at my parents in Livermore and go saturday or sunday and do some work on the trailer...lots of fun Huckleberry!!

Seriously rethink San Luis.

Not cat for the Catolac just or little dog Radar who has enjoyed both TI gatherings.

I am all for some Pizza at Bronco Billy's. Maybe we can have lunch there on 12/26 or 12/30?? They the lunch special there that includes the salad bar and a slice and a drink for a fun price?? Then I like to walk over to the record store and thumb through the vinyl.

I really enjoy working on the trailer...my teardrop was so new that it was near perfect and not much to do but keep it clean and ready to go. I guess I like small projects.

All the best!!

Dave

PS: I think you have my cellphone number if not pm me and I will send it to you.

we should invite Steve, Dano and Ted? I think they are all south bay..but I am cool if it just you and i and some pizza!!

Dave I'm always up for a pizza party.
As for San Luis Reservoir I'm not ruling it out yet. I've been by three times now and no campers at all. They do have a beach area but it is across the freeway. I have camped at the area they call remote. No showers ex.. and have not had a problem ex... I'm like you looking for the best kept campgrounds that no others know about.
I do like the Mt. Diablo idea.
I'm sure we can find a great camping spot near us and not have to worry about all that stuff you talked about.

Oh yea, "when you turned 50" ??? no way !!!

Yeah, I too am having trouble with that birthday stuff. I wouldn't believe you for 50 unless I carded you at the door ;-)

I've heard good and bad stories about San Luis. A friend used to take his boat there w/ his kids and had trouble with rowdy elements a couple of times, but had good times more than not.

How accessible is the campsite on Mt. Diablo, I've never seen anyone with a trailer or camper when I've cycled to the top, but it's been a few years since then too ;-)

Monday the 30th sounds good for lunch. Maybe I can get Steve Vaz to join in. Dano is Fremont/Niles too far for you to go for lunch? I'd love to see you and talk about the next DAM gathering.
