That doesn't have a real long tongue/A-frame, does it?

Nice. I love those old trailers. How well does the leatherette stand up to the weather? It seems to me that there wouldn't be too many of those around if they're stored out in the weather.

Andrew,

No, it is rather short!

Because of the "V" nose of the trailer, and the tendancy of vehicles of that era to have bumpers (ball mounts) extending a good way back from the body, you could still turn pretty sharp without contacting the trailer.

Bruce,

Leatherette (early vinyl) would hold up for a few years outdoors, especially if treated with auto top sealer, but indoor storage was really the only way to get any decent life out of them.
Steel bodied trailers, and then aluminum bodied trailers started replacing the short lived Leatherette trailers in around 1936.
Schult adopted the aluminum in the early 40's I believe.

Not to mention all those cute little leatherettes that had to be clubbed to death so that their hide could be made into into this product...... :o

Steve,

It felt very roomy as well, good design I suppose?

I didn't have a tape, but my guess is 7' x 14.

Rob,

Thank you for posting those pictures. I love the patina of the interior woodwork. I don't think it is Birch plywood. Do you know what it might be - maybe Douglas Fir?

I've been thinking about building a breadloaf for some time. These pictures are whetting my appetite to build.

Take care,
Tom

Tom,

You're welcome.

I enjoyed going through it and couldn't just not share...

You are correct, it is Not Birch.
I'm not a species expert, but it looks like Fir to me.

Here is a shot that may help you along... ;)
