My 2nd new Scotty! The '66

Alot of people follow my FB but I thought I would post that I pretty much have found my final camper. Yes, I still have five more, but they are all projects that will be finished and sold except my moms camper which will be rebuilt into my guest accommodations.

At any rate, I recently bought a '65 Scotty for $200 which won the ugliest camper award and I have been busy working on in and it has been coming along nicely when the stars aligned... Right after I got my yearly bonus from work, I see a CL ad posted on a Scotty forum and while I knew I didn't need another camper, I reviewed the ad and I realized that this was a ''66 silverside in 100% campable condition. It has been redone (not restored) on the inside which was a drawback, but it wasn't too invasive that I couldn't correct and again. It was campable today and I have been wanting to downsize to the smallest standy possible and also mingle my love for vintage campers, so this fit the bill to make the transition right away rather than wait for my other Scotty to be done. It was for sale an hour and a half East of me, which was great because I love a nice East Texas dive anyway, and the price was right at $1500. After negotiating for the non-original style restoration, I brought it home for $1200. I was shocked when the original tail lights worked! When I got it home I did a deeper dive into the redo, and the prior owner actually did a very competent job even if it wasn't my style. Moreso, I don't know who did this, but this year model Scotty didn't come in bare aluminum, so they must have painstakingly removed all of the paint which is an incredible job. (I tried, I failed, I will never attempt again). The camper is actually still reasonably shiny too!

Here are some pics, I am so glad that I am ready for a long trip that won't break the bank hauling one of my very cool, but heavy campers!!! This standy is rated from the factory at 975lbs!

We have enjoyed our Scotty tremendously. A small Scotty makes a great little camper. Congratulations!

Thomas I had a customer who scheduled a meeting in March each year. It was often the same weekend as BB. Last year's change to April was perfect. No conflicts. Wouldn't you know it but they changed this year's meeting to April on the same Weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Our Scotty is a new one compared to yours. 1978 model. Our trailer body is 7 feet wide by 10 feet long. Is yours 72 inches wide or 78 inches wide. Macy really likes the extra room vs our TD. It is nice to be able to sit at a dinette and stand to dress. Particularly if the weather is cold or rainy.
Congrats again.
Larry

It's funny because the little 10 foot Play Mor camper I got from my Mom is like your Scotty, when all other campers those days were well into the squared off look (which I sometimes like too) but these two still kept the classic rounded shapes. We'll see you next time!! I wish there were more parks out your way, but there are some in East OK besides Beaver's Bend that we need to add to the fold!

I have never given one of these vintage Scottys a second thought in the days gone past. I am sure I have seen many in my travels. But after reading and enjoying the many stories I have read here, they bring a whole new level of interest in them for me. The test of my new appreciation for them will come if I ever see one for sale again.
Thanks to all for sharing your finds and stories.

I am very much looking forward to finishing up and selling my other campers and then beginning work on the interior of this one. The blue will do for now since it's clean, but I plan on doing the interior in stained birch for a more vintage look that will go nicely with the bare aluminum outside!

Sounds like you have the Scotty bug. Can't blame you...we have had several. Here is one of my favs...a 1960. Really hated selling it but since I buy and rehab...cant keep them all.

One prob with polished...they get hot. And I didn't have a/c in this one...hence the canopy!
When I first saw your post and pic I thought..what..a '66? Then I read further about someone stripping the paint.
