Is garden hose possible?

Postby MyYota85 » Fri Jan 09, 2015 8:01 pm

My goal/question is can I use 50ft garden hose and a bunch of fittings? I will mount tank under trailer and plumb using "garden hose" to sink and a shower. We will NOT be drinking this water as we have a 2 gallon jug of bottle water. Any help or experience would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance..

Use the hose meant for RV water use, usually white.
Mine is plumbed with PEX.

That reinforced garden hose works fine for that sort of thing

We live in New Orleans so freeze is not an issue, the white pex style seems pretty expensive.

The better the quality the material (expensive) the less you have to deal with failure over time, cutting build cost is not always a money saver a year or two down the road...

True, but it is cheaper than being treated for lead poisoning, among the other nasties which leach from regular garden hose over time. Fill a garden hose with water, let it set awhile, then smell/taste the water.
I would recommend that whatever you use, it is NSF or food-grade. You can buy reinforced Tygon hose at the big box stores, and then use the proper fittings to connect. PEX is also a definite winner.

Who know what nasties live in the materials used in the making of garden hose made in China. I've been camping for several decades in a combination of pop ups, motor homes or travel trailers and if memory serves me, I've used the same white RV hose all those years. Even though you may not be drinking water flowing thru that garden hose, I'd stick with the purpose built, white, RV hose.
Nowadays you can buy it from big box stores like Walmart or get it on line at a reasonable cost.

Sounds good guys, the few extra dollars saved will be worth it in the long run vs going to the doc for some type of disease.
Is it possible to literally use the pex from tank to shower? Then for drains I'll use pvc to gray tank?

Going a step further and talking about "ingesting Nasty's". I wouldn't ingest or cook with any water that has sat in a Potable water tank.

Thats why I don't have a Potable water tank.

This and Gravity work just fine.

I so the same as Len, I use the bottled water for cooking and drinking, but I always put fresh water in the tank and try and keep it clean enough to drink. If I do need it I want it to be safe, and I feel better better about cleaning with it.

I used tygon style clear hose sold at Home Depot. It costs a little more but they have the fittings too.
