city water connection/check valve

How many on here with a city water connection have a check valve/back flow valve installed on the city side. Is it necessary to have one or is the incoming pressure of the city water sufficent to keep it in check.

I did not have one. A couple of weeks ago it blew my inside plumbing apart. Now I will not connect to such sources without one.

A check valve will not help...you need a pressure reducing valve. About 10 bucks at any RV store or amazon. A backflow device simply as named prevents backflow in the opposite direction of intended flow, although for a backflow to work properly it does have a very small pressure differential (Less) on the downstream side aided or equalized with spring pressure, but not near enough to achieve the out come you are after.

My mistake....I did not read the words corrctly. I thought I was commenting on a pressure valve and not a check valve.

I did on my big camper. First thing beyond the strainer at the input hose connection.
While it would work as backflow prevention, that was not its primary job.

Btw, a legitimate campground will have vacuum breaker on a threaded watertap. But I dont think that will prevent backflow if pressure is maintained.

Thanks HA for the reply. I had plans for a pressure regulator at the shore water inlet but wasn't sure if a check valve was really needed. My thought was it wouldn't hurt.

Thanks again,
