greygoos - That is a good looking truck. When I was designing my camper i was very, very hesitant to build it at permanent standing height because of the hit I thought I would take on mileage. Over the last 600 miles of mostly highway (55-70 mph), and some around town driving I've been getting 21.8 mpg. My truck has an epa estimated 21 mpg on the highway..

I owe this to the fact that I drive like a TOTAL GRANDMA. other than freeway on ramps, I never have the gas pedal more than 1/4 depressed. If you don't plan on having the camper on 24/7, my advice is GO BIG and dial back your speed and acceleration to save fuel.

In my opinion, folding walls/popup canvas designs are MUCH more complicated, expensive, prone to leaking and more time consuming to build.

That being said, I would love to see any popup design you can come up with!

Sean- Thanks for the advice. I have thought about doing exactly what you suggested. Do you have any pics posted of your camper ? I am a pretty conservative driver. The truck in the picture I just fell into. I didn't build it but couldn't pass up the deal. It's a monster engine. Hoping to start a build soon.

Sean BTW I think there are some pretty talented people on here and with their help and previous building experience you could build just about anything you can come up with.

I have discovered that there's one thing better than foamies .... That is being a grand mother. The baby was born Tuesday morning at 9 , she is so perfect. She weighed 7. Lbs 7 oz ..... I am now a grandmother. And it is a wonderful feeling. Her name is Rowan Ainsley Cantrell. So special so sweet and so little. Momma is doing great. She had a c section and is in fast recovery. Daddy is beside himself. I think they will do great.

Sometimes we have to pinch ourselves and see if we’re dreaming .... Wasn’t so long ago , there was No Foamie section , and we were in the General Section defending our ideas ... Ideas that just didn’t quite sit right with the wooden trailer folks ...

I have been thinking about that very thing. I think there is a little change in thinking because some of us have been going to camp outs and our little trailers are being seen and that is going to be important for future attitudes. Mine is not the greatest but at least I'm camping and traveling.
