And speaking of Thrifty , while the holidays were going on , managed to sneak in my Salvage Lap Steel Guitar project ... The object was to make it entirely out of “found” recycled wood and parts (somewhat like Thrifty trailer building ) ... most of the wood parts coming from the trash bin at my buddy’s guitar company . Turned out the only thing I had to buy was the tuners for 30USD , so that wasn’t so bad... Still Thrifty !!! Indoor Fun !!!

Not sure if I should enter the discussion here or on one of the smaller posts.

I am new to this and working on design for my first foamie. May start a build journal after I get a few design challenges worked out.
My plan is to build a 6' X 11'6" Winter Warrior that lifts up to standing height in back. Walls will be 2" foam covered with canvas drop cloth/glue. Ceiling would be kerfed 2". The back half where the hatch sits will be 1" thick with a 1" thick hatch that will "nest" in the opening created where the 2" meets the 1", if that makes any sense. Does that seem workable?
Planning a raised bed that sits lengthwise and has a 10" walkway on either side of the bed, with the bottom half of the bed pop up to create a dinette with benches on either side of a 2X3 table. That part is built.
Question about the walls - has anyone ever cut a 1" notch (i.e., a rabbit cut) in the 2" at the bottom so that a 1" thickness of the wall overhangs the floor and the steel frame of the trailer? Walls would then be glued to the edge of the floor and 1" of floor itself, thus covering the plywood edges of the sandwich floor and the trailer frame).
Could really use some feedback/ideas as I have never seen any of the trailers discussed in the foamie threads.

I don't know how to use the CAD programs but have cardboard model and graphed designs. Will take photos of model, scan plans, and send later this week.

Sorry Charlie, I am not a technical person, so I can't help with that. But it does sound like it is doable. Others that are more "technical" will chime in.

Welcome Charlie, Your build sounds ok but the pictures would help I took pictures of my drawings. that worked too. This is a wonderful section but we do suggest some reading, to at least get the ideas of building with foam. what wont work and to get the understand that this is a real valid way of building of course we ask the really hard questions like where do you live and how close is hd and the other supply stores and pets and food picts. So welcome, we try to be sociable while building......
