2nd call to jury duty, I got a three week civil trial. Got laid off from work in the middle of the trial, but that's a whole 'nother story. Oddly enough, the criminal trial I was selected for pled, guess the defendant didn't like the looks of us. :)

Bonnie , I didn’t think it was legal to lay any body off because of jury duty ... but then again , it is the new “corporate America” , where they can do anything they want , basically ...

Those would be the operative words of that.

You can certainly be laid off during jury duty. The fact that you were on jury duty simply can't be the reason.

Nope. Just got caught in the twice annual layoff to make the bottom line look good trap. The Judge's clerk did ask me. No worries. I have a better position now and a much, much shorter commute. :)

I actually enjoyed Jury Duty. Was interesting to see the law working from the inside.

I was a juror in a civil trial a few years back.

I enjoyed it as well.

I didn't need to show up to the court room every day to see if I had a trial or not. I could phone in the night before and work if I wasn't required to be there.

Jury duty in the county I was in only lasts for a week. The trial lasted three days.

Could have probably lasted less than two if they didn't take so many breaks.

All in all, I found the whole process interesting. It was close enough from where I was living at the time to walk there so I didn't need to drive and pay for parking (which would have cost me more than they were paying me).

I hate jury duty ... 20 miles away , expensive parking , bad coffee, and no donuts .. Archaic system at best , too easily influenced.. but while I’m out I can stop by the Fabric store and check for deals on canvas ... which I believe was the Topic here...
