Foam and Epoxy

Postby davel » Wed Jun 15, 2011 11:55 am

After looking and reading everything in the Foamies section. I thought I needed to share my build with everyone.

I'm not really sure why everyone is using such thick foam. The Bluebonnet II is built from 1" foam which is extremely easy to find. The build has helped me discover everything not to do when building with foam.

Please check out the build gallery.

I seen Dave's Bluebonnet teardrop and it is fantastic. He did a foamie befoe foamies were cool!

Take a look at his pictures. They show how he did the hard points, connection details, etc.

Take care,
Tom

GPW, Most of the stuff I learned was things ya'll have already brought out.
I'll try to post them as I think of them. After camping in it for two years, I've forgotten a lot of the painful lessons.

1. Something I've seen mentioned which I think is a real necessity with foam is the perforation tool mentioned in another thread. No matter what you are using to cover the foam, the bond is only as good as the surface and the foam does give way no matter how well it's stuck in the beginning. You need as much penetration into the foam as you can possibly get.

2. Never use bondo on bare foam. The heat causes seperation with the foam later on. Best way I've found to fill foam is with the spray foam. Also once you have epoxy set on the foam you can use bondo with good results.

As I think of other things I'll post them.
