What a creative build. I learned so much, and am filing away a lot of your great ideas for "someday". That's one eye catching paint job, even without the finishing details.

That little tear won't just turn heads, it will break necks. Can't wait to see a picture of the whole rig.

Just beautiful.

I have been googling trying to find that Plasicor product you used. I found several variations of Plasticor, but nothing that looks quite like that, with the fabric. Can you give a link to more information about it??

I was pretty sure for a paint job that nice that automotive paint was involved. Too bad for me... I don't think I have the skill set for it. House painting I can do. Beyond that I leave it to the pros. Love the colors. And you did it without a paint booth....

Enjoy the trip. Lots of pics please!!! :pictures: :pictures: :pictures:

Pico Light Foam and fiberglass

Postby aksnowryder » Sat Jul 07, 2012 11:13 pm

Got the trailer wiring finished today. Yay! Hooked it up to the motorcycle and went and got her weighed, official weight 180lbs. I came in under what my goal was. That is with a 1 1/2" memory foam mattress topper inside as well. Some extras I will have with me that weren't part of the official weight, spare tire, solar vent in roof and I am going to weld on a small foot to the stand. She tows great... funny thing at low speeds it bounces quite a bit but on the highway very smooth and sticks to the road very well.

Things I still need to do to finish it for my trip.
1. The four bolts into the side of the body, I want to remove and epoxy them in. I'm just afraid they might vibrate out.
2. Install solar roof vent
3. Weld foot to propstand
4. Add one more bolt to front of frame to body floor
5. Add a small inlet PVC elbow to rear of trailer for fresh air exhaust or intake depending on how the fan is running

Once these things are done I will post a few more pics with the bike.

Finished up my list.

94928 Here is the solar roof vent, fan and LED light

94929 Here is a shot of the fenders after installing the spacer to straighten them up

94930 PVC elbow installed for fresh air inlet or exhaust depending on how I have the fan running. It will run either way.

94931 Here are three shots of the bike hooked to the trailer.

94933

All I need to do now is mount the license plate to the trailer and pack for the trip. :D :applause:  :D

Pico Light Foam and fiberglass

Postby aksnowryder » Tue Jul 10, 2012 12:53 am

Oldragbaggers, I went by the fiberglass shop today to check on where to get the material I used for the roof. The material is Plascore not plasticore. I'm sorry for the confusion. Plascore is also known as PP Polypropylene Honeycomb.

Nice build! Can you talk about the fan/vent/light (sounds like a combo unit) and where you got it?

West Marine is where I purchased mine. It will run the fan either way (exhaust or intake) the LED light is blue and does not put out a lot of light but inside the trailer I don't need much light. The solar aspect is great. The fan will run off the solar power or if not running the fan the solar will charge the battery. The fan does not move a lot of air, but again, I'm really only needing it to move enough air that I get fresh air in while sleeping.

I've done about 450 miles with the trailer now in town and on the highway. It performs flawlessly. I leave for the trip tomorrow after church. Over the next three weeks I will put on about 7000 miles. I am using a 1 1/2" memory foam mattress topper over a small camping pad. It is very comfortable! With the shelf inside I have a lot of room for my gear and self.

I invite ya'll to follow my trip along as I plan to post pics each day on my facebook page. www.facebook.com/dbsongs or at www.dougbriney.com

I will log on here at the halfway point of the trip and give an update.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement!

Doug
