I always wondered how ultralight trailers would tow , but seems now they tow just fine  ... and from my limited experience the lighter weight doesn’t seem to “launch" over bumps ... less weight, less Inertia to overcome and counteract... The light foamie shell just follows the trailer’s movement and doesn’t Contribute to it ... Contrary to popular opinion , the light weight doesn’t Hop around as once thought :o ... (saving a lot of ballast  )
Bonnie can probably confirm all this for us ;) (be sure to ask Bonnie about my street , which is like an off road test course... :frightened: )
With the eventual tendency for smaller more efficient cars , trailers will have to be correspondingly lighter .... Might be tough to do in wood , but foam seems to be no problem to keep Light ... JMHO FWIW ?

... and more ... Our lifetime experiences with towing is mostly Boats ... Everybody around here has a boat !!! (we’re surrounded by Water eh !!! :frightened: ) And smaller boats were always a Pain to tow , not because they were Light ,but there was a heavy Motor on the back , and naturally we’d have to stop and reposition everything forward to get the right BALANCE !!! The correct balance of the trailer seems more important than a lot of other things ... same as we found with airplanes ... Foamie’ airplanes...

Glen's correct. I figured if the Nookery didn't come off the frame on the way down his road :frightened: it wouldn't come off, ever. :R I paid alot of attention to the trailer's ride on the way back. Very little sway and bounce. Pretty impressive from my stand point.

*sigh*

I don't know why I do this... found a decent popup trailer on CL today, 6x10 and already stripped down. $> :frustrated: http://binghamton.craigslist.org/rvs/4556893643.html

Hi folks,
I've been quietly watching all of your builds, numerous kudo's going out. Funny thing, as I type this none other than GPW's foamstream is the featured hall of fame trailer! I'm still on the sidelines, and another build season has come and gone. The snow is flying (not tonight) in the northeast, and soon I'll be doing any shop glue-ups in the house for any and all of my woodworking projects.

Speaking of which: I finally pulled the trigger and started a Kickstarter campaign this past friday. You've seen the end grain boards I make before. I decided to raise some capital to add a new tool or two to my shop. I'm specifically looking to buy a Drum Sander, which will help me make my boards for an eventual Etsy shop which I'll open in the new year. If you're interested in that whole process, I wrote up a blog post on my 'new' woodworking Blog: Artisanboards.blogspot.com My campaign has taken off like wildfire, and my friends and the buying public have already successfully funded my project two times over. I'm going to pick up the sander in Mid December (possibly sooner, but that's about when I'll receive the funding). I'm going to have as much of the fulfillment pieces cut and assembled before I go pick up the sander, as it is smoothing out the last of the boards which is what I need it for. I should have quite the pile sitting ready to be worked by the time I get it.

Work is work, and I'm still out running the wheels off my car. I just hit 156,000 miles on my 'new' prius. Thats 25,000 miles since the end of June.

Keep up the good work y'all, I'm out here rooting for all of your projects! -Ned

I've been mucking around in sketchup, learning how to push this and that around in there. Naturally enough I decided to work up a sketch of my trailer.

Image
front 3/4 view

based on a NT 5x8, the cabin is 12' long

5' wide, 5' high.

Image

planning on a walk through section in the rear, bench on the street side, cabinets on the curb side. Pair of doors for the bunk area. In that last pic I have the bed on a platform, but I think I'll be putting it on the floor instead.
