Billboard tarps are usually polyethylene (just like a regular "blue" tarp) but they are coated with a thick vinyl on both sides. The vinyl makes them really durable and smooth surfaced, but HEAVY.

Thanks for the info. Having never seen one up close, I wondered about their construction.
They might be a suitable substitute for the EPDM (pond liner) some TD builders are using. I suppose a contact cement would glue them down fine. Some paints may adhere to them. Experiments would be in order.
I understand they are cheap and huge. One forum I read has people using them for shade tarps or even roofs on temporary shelters. They're said to be good for many more years than even the silver tarps from HF.
