Dave you may just want to push the snow off with a shovel You may have more luck!!!!

Lots of public critizations (new word but it fits) of the situation. but this brings to the forefront that people are not self sufficient even if it is just for a few days and they did not and do not plan to take care of themselves but people need to know that they have to learn self sufficiency A friend called and said her neighbor is crying and crying just doesn't know what to do. she is going to run out of food and not make it through even 2 days. She wants to call the fire dept and police to help her out. I talked with another couple who moved from the city two years ago they live 7 miles from the grocery store and used to keep the road warm just going back and forth I told them they would get tired of that so after telling them to get at least a weeks food and extra staples in the house they said they are so much better off and will make the ice and snow in just fine.

I never thought I would talk about walking through the snow and up into the barn to look for wood to work on my TD . but yep thats my plan for later this afternoon. it is still cold but I have some things to at least plan and weather to plan to purchase or finding just the right pieces to do the job with in the barn. I am doing a lot of little planning how to finish up several things. I have shelves in the front over the head of the sleeping area , still working on the back too cold to varnish the shelves for my stove and cooler. I have the wiley windows I have to plan to make and just how to do it. and last but certainly least I have little things to do that I cant do because of the weather but I assure you I will be doing a lot of things after It gets really warm. and I have a bucket list to plan for.

Mary,

Not worried about the snow. Just wondering how long it'll take to melt with the insulation I have in the roof/ceiling. Been about an hour now with a 1500 watt heater (small personal heater) going inside and the temp is closing in on 60. Would have been higher but someone  failed to close the door completely after putting the heater in and didn't get back out there for about half an hour... No melt on the north side of the roof. Just a bit on the south side where the sun can get to it (what little we have as clouds have moved in again :( ).

Put some pix in my album and did a short post on it in my Vardo thread. Gonna take more as the temp gets in the 70 degree range.

NO wood for the Wiley Window      It looks like I am going to have to wait till my son comes out ( he has a truck)so I can get a sheet of plywood, some 2x4s and 2---2" foam boards. Hey Row, what are the dimensions of your mouse boat length width and depth?

Living way out in the country, it seems that the power goes off often and first we had the snow then we had Ice when the the power just kept going off and on. I was on ordering my hinges when it went off the last time and everything but the computer came back on. after spending a while trying to get it, changing out the plugs, using another receptical and using different combinations it just wouldn't come back on, so I packed it up and took it to the computer doctor. I actually kept up with the forum on my tablet only problem I couldn't post, the type of wifi I have. it messed up without the computer. oh well,

More pictures
118231 first I had to clean up the tree limbs and this is only a little

118230

118229

118233 Wiley Windows first had to put little strips around the wood just to
level the surface then cut the wood for the windows and built away.

Wow, Mary! You've made some good progress, even though you seem to have had all kinds of weather-related problems.
It's good to see you back on the forum.

Mel I was so worried about building them, I wanted to use thinner wood than one bys I went to home depot and was talking to my wood friend and he suggested the fence boards. They worked perfectly for the build. They are lighter weight too so that made me feel better. The windows are plexie i had given to me years ago. The big piece was in the old barn It had really bad scratches. I bought sandpaper and already had mcguires so I just sanded for about 4 hours. I started with 220 wet or dry putting water with it to keep down the dust. I literally sanded for 30 minutes on every side. then I just sanded with 800 and 1000 and 1500 and then used my drill and used mcguires to polish. I am so proud of them if I had not told you you would think it was new plexie. I made my own screens and I will be making my black out screens this weekend. I priced the plexie $45.00 I couldn't afford that but just had to buy the 220 and 1500 sandpaper. Thrifty, Thrifty, Thrifty!! I have the metal side pieces for the screens already and just need to get the corners so that will be in AM.
