Well I pulled it out in the driveway last night. Then I went after it with the garden hose leak testing. Well, I sat inside and had somebody else hose it down. Flooding all the window seals and the
hatch seal and such. Everything was dry even the parts I was really worried about. But then I heard dripping and I kept asking anybody else was hearing anything. Nope.

I had some leaking at the hatch hinge. Hopping up on a stool showed that the grey putty tape wasn't stuck down as well as a person would like. A bit of mooshing and squishing with a putty knife along the edge and the seal was great. I left it outside overnight (the first time!) and it was still dry inside this morning which is great, since it rained overnight. More storms this afternoon. It'll get a pretty good wetness test.

Totally campable!

Thanks guys! I'll try and get some that show the other side in daylight as well. That giant window is awesome looking if I do say so myself.

It's really encouraging to see it out in the daylight and hear you all say nice things about it.

My all foam hatch is slightly skewed, so it shows more seal on one side and overhangs on the other the glueup dried a bit crooked and it seems to have gotten a bit worse. But other than that I am super happy with how it came out. And I'm leaving the hatch as it seals ok and the skew is small (just under an inch). I don't know how the hatch will hold up. I am sort of expecting it to suffer some sort of failure as I don't know anybody else with one that's been tested. So when it dies I'll build a new better one!

"It's gotta a little"...(insert your own particular wart here). We all have those. Schtuff happens and it doesn't always happen the way we intend. Nothing is perfect.

Did you have fun and challenge yourself building it? Did you exercise your creativity and brain planning and building it? Will you have fun camping in it? Of course the answer to all of these questions is yes. Yes it looks good!

Mattress is in. I've slept in it a few nights.
There is a wishlist of improvements (headboard plugs) I have holes my pillows can fall in.
Better counter in the galley (plans but not yet executed)
quilt..

But it's great. It's light (haven't weighed it my 10lb limit kitchen scale isn't going to do the job) but 3 ladies can lift it and move it around the garage.

I am considering making my first big trip a run to Vancouver Canada from Minneapolis.

I'll post pics when it isn't raining.

Superlegerra -ish 5x9 foamy - First Trip!

Postby lthomas987 » Mon Oct 10, 2016 11:20 am

Finally took it out on an outing. Worked fantastic. Temps were pretty cool. 50s during the day 30s at night. Stayed nice and warm once I found the right amout of window open to allow ventilation and not too much breeze. We were having so much fun I forgot to take basically any photos. I think my friend got a few though. So maybe we'll have some more once I check.

Also fixed a pair of coleman lanterns for folks that had them and couldn't make them work. :)

Yeah, Laura!!
Wasn't it worth it?? You can really have fun now. Congratulations on your completion. I really like the window and the choice of covering in the galley. Turned out GREAT.
Be prepared to be asked questions (& give answers) when you stop to gas up, check it in a campground, park it somewhere......etc It will be a real attention "getter".

That looks great! :D You've inspired me to finally finish mine. Medical problems made me lose interest in finishing it 2 years ago, but I think I'll spend some quality time removing some rotted wood in the doors and start them over this weekend. It got some wood rot because a small limb punctured the roof and I didn't know it for a couple of months  but it has been repaired and reinforced. The missus wants to go camping next Spring, so I have my marching orders.
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross the road without having his motives questioned.
