New material ...

Postby GPW » Sat Oct 10, 2015 5:52 am

“ ask and ye shall receive “ .... While watching P.Allen Smith garden show this morning , they were replacing rotted wood boards with “ cellular PVC” which came in a sheet like plywood and was touted to be a one time fix ... no more ROT .... Just the stuff we’ve been waiting for ... I think !!! Now all we need is to try some out for ourselves... 8) :applause:

Here is one producer: http://versatex.com/pvc-sheet-material

If you are in the Pennsylvania area you are set.

Now to find dealers for the rest of us...

That's really thin stuff at 3/100". Might be some people would like for a slick looking inside.

OK, it’s NOT cheap , but you can cut a lot of door , window and roof frames out of a 4X8 sheet ... and have some left over for the next build ... :o
Ps. Although possible , we’re really not thinking of using it for sheet applications ... like sides or roof.

New guy here. Been watching and planning a while. Has anyone tried using expanded PVC sheet? There is a brand out there called Centrex. It is highly UV resistant and comes in a variety of colors and thickness. From what I understand it is also high impact and because of the foam core there is minimal shrinkage. It can be cut with a variety of tools. A local sign supply can provide 48 X 96 inch sheets, 1/8 thick for about 32.00 per sheet. My thought would be to cover the foam sheets with the material and trim it out with aluminum or pvc. Any comments or suggestions would be welcome. Please don't hesitate as I have a thick skin and can take it on the chin.

Goos, yet to be tried , but there are no rules here, many ways to make it ...
Actually my own thinking about this is not a heavy skin , but cut into sizes to replace wooden framing , such a door and window frames that need to have attached to them ( screws , bolts , etc. )

Foamies are made to be LIGHTWEIGHT and Simple , NOT to represent any RV type of heavy ( and short lasting) construction... Just sayin’ ... again ...
