That was/is my original plan, I don't know of any that have been completed yet.

Weekender should be easy eh ? It’s one of those Perfect designs ,simple ,straight cuts , easy to build , streamline in it’s boxiness ( diamond airfoil ) . It’s what we based our Foamie #1 on … ish ‘. With the right skinning and the angular shape , it should be extremely STRONG too and could be theoretically be made out of just foam ( wood or other suitable materials for the hinged door and hatch ) JMHO
We’ve drifted away from the basic idea of simple Foamies and ended up with complex structures better represented in other , better suited materials ( although foam could still be used for insulation ) The idea of a simple Foamie started out as a Hard Tent , which it excelled at that because of it’s simplicity , but it wasn’t designed to carry yaks on top , or dancing on the roof , nor is a tent . Sometimes we have to get back to the Foamie roots with a well designed camper that fits within the parameters and “recommended usage" of a Foamie . “Weekender" is one for sure . Whoever came up with that one is a Genius. IMHO

Note : for my size ( “ Large frame” ) , I’d need one about 30% larger. That would be Cool . 8)

Yes Sir. I'm not too small myself, plus by the time my wife and dachshund hog the bed, I'm left with 1 sq foot to curl up and sleep in. Laughing.

You guys think there’s any interest in a “Big-ender” ? Sure would make a simple Foamie no matter what size you make it , and it could be simplified even more . Just because it’s Bigger doesn’t mean it has to be Heavy … Those regular 4’ wide trailers were in reality just big enough for me, that was it ! :o

I would think so. I love the design of the weekender and stretching it out to say 6' X 10' and maybe raising it to 4.8 feet so u could put a loo in one corner and pet bed in the other corner, would be perfect for the wife and I. We wouldn't need nor use a galley. That's not our cooking style. We cook over open fire and with our Dutch Ovens. We've been both tent campers and big RV'er's. We are ready to condense and slow the pace. Wife is darn near 70 and I'm disabled. A touch above teardrop is all we need to enjoy what camping years we have left. I've been pestering my brother to build us something. I might have to pester him a bit more.

If I recall, Mike S. (AKA The Man), Invented the weekender as a "what-if" project playing with his CAD, and then built the rough prototype using leftover OSB board in one weekend.........(And thus are Legends made  ).......jd

HMK, our first TD ( plywood) was 5’ high inside and I could easily sit upright in a comfortable normal size folding chair , and still have room for my hat , and I’m 6’3” :o Best of all it would still fit in the Garage !!! 8)
Best just size the trailer around your needs , since we’re all different and have different needs . A little stretching here and there , no problem for such a great design like the Weekender.

Amen to what GPW said...........My build started out from the "Weekender" plans, and transformed into a 5 wide foamie, 9.5 ft long, with no up angles fore and aft on the "keel". But the DNA is still Weekender........jd

That's pretty much what I built, minus the loo or any real cooking stuff. Look up Campy McCampface, or search under Videographer. It's 10' 4" long, 6' 2" wide, and about 5' 8" inside.

I built Campy with two beds, but if you wanted one full-size there could be plenty of space for a small kitchen & portapotty.

Ultra Light Foamie Weekender (sleep Platform)

Postby Ned B » Tue Nov 28, 2017 3:59 pm

Hi gang... long time no post.

Life took some funky turns this fall, and we’ve been busy coping with them as they come.

First our youngest ; Patrick got his license, and proceeded to have his first accident less than a week later. No injuries, mostly body damAge... but Lori’s Escape wound up totaled because the drivetrain was affected too. With 210,000 miles on a 13 yr old car, it was to be expected.

A couple of weeks later things took a real turn for the worse. Lori had an infection in her foot and wound up Having emergency surgery to remove her left big toe. She was in the hospital for almost a week, has been recovering for three months now. Everything seem to have been going fine, but a follow up visit led to another hospital stay a month ago . It seemed that she should have been on IV meds at home from the time of surgery, but it never happened. As a result the infection returned. She wound up in the hospital again, this time for intensive IV anabiotic‘s for six days. Finally got a pick line put in, and has been on home IV treatment for a month now. We are now waiting for the latest blood test to come back, hoping that the line can be removed.

After she was released from the hospital the second time she also had an MRI on her other foot which has been hurting her for about nine months. That, it turns out, is an equally serious situation if not more so than the amputation. She has had diabetes for a while now, and neuropathy can lead to a much more serious condition called Charcot foot. She has been diagnosed with that on her right foot. essentially because of the neuropathy there is a degenerative bone disease that sets in, and when you can’t feel your feet well, you don’t feel it when they’re injured. Eventually the arch of the foot can fall;?Leading to worse problems.

Ultimately there is no treatment for Charcot Foot, only protection from further injuries. She goes to be fitted for special footwear which will help with minimizing her risks tomorrow.

Her specialist said ‘ this is a life changing event; you cannot stand or walk as you have in the past,’ ie: hours standing and walking for work;
Lori works at Target On the retail floor, And unless they find another position in the office there, she’ll have to find an office job somewhere else.

Once her left foot has healed enough she has to have an MRI on her as well to see if Charcot is there too.

On a positive note, we had a good Thanksgiving with nine people in attendance for dinner, Lori, myself, our eldest son & his family, his mother in law, Our youngest boy and his girlfriend were here as well. Our daughter-in-law cooked the turkey, Lori was strictly limited to just doing a couple of side dishes and hosting.

I finally got my Shopsmith home from my dad’s basement. I have yet to do much with it it is at least assembled and in the shop.

Thanks greygoos! Just got word that she’s done with the IV meds, and gets the line removed in the morning!

Plus, she got fitted for her long term fitted shoe. Because they got it done this calendar year, and we’re well over our deductible, the boot is covered 100%!
