Consider this ... 1/4’ ply on both sides of a 2” Foam board ... That’s 2.5” thick  .. Same thickness as a 1” board floor and a 1.5” thick “2X4” frame ... Apologies for pushing a “board floor , but In my experience it’s MUCH more durable than any plywood ... Most of the readily available 1/4" ply is cheap c**p ... :o Boards can be picked for uniformity ,and once installed should last the life of the trailer with no special care ...
NOTE * And you’ll notice a generous amount of area to glue your wall to the floor ...
You want floor insulation , Put it on top of the floor , not the bottom where moisture will be retained ...
You folks ever see FFF (fan fold foam) .... It’s right next to the 2” sheets at the store , and is 2’X4’x 1/4” thick folded sheet . which works surprisingly great as a floor pad to keep the cold off your nether regions ... That under a cheap throw rug would be quite toasty ...

And a drawing .... naturally !!! ;)

Mike
the floor in the bedroom in the WW is a composite like your talking about. It does flex a bit when I stand up in there but other than that it works fine. In this trailer you wouldn't be standing in it so a frame, plywood, and foam floor ought to work great

Aggie,

That's my favorite floor... but I usually use 2x2's.

That's what the model has in it, but I'm looking to expand my horizons. I've seen some really good ideas already!!

Glen,

Yea, now that you mention it, it is pretty big. You could put a small bed in there... I don't think a bunk bed would fit..

As for the colors, yea, I like them all too. I was trying to do an aluminum painted canvas one, but I have not figured out how to do that yet, and I haven't found a seamless texture for it either.

Ah well, maybe I'll just skin it in aluminum...

Since I can't seem to paint with metalic aluminum paint on canvas, I thought I'd do an OD Green...

I think you guys over build. I used 2" foam on the floor with canvas on the bottom and FRP in the top. Vinyl on top if I was to redo it.
Set the walls on top of the floor and glue down with polyurethane caulk. With the walls glued to the floor and the roof glued to the walls you can have a 48"' inside wall height.
My roof and walls are 1" foam (that is right just 1 inch on a 5 wide without any cross struts) with canvas on one side and FRP on the other side. If I was to redo I would do 1 1/2 and canvas both sides.
Plus I use no wood or metal. I did use FRP as glue on hard points(half rounds look OK for hinges). It makes building very easy not having to plan hard points. I have over 10,000 mile on mine and some at over 80 mph and it did not blow apart.

If not a Beroy with a rounded roof(for strength). The Grasshopper with a double hatch(a fold down counter inside a outer hatch) would get my vote.
A 5x9 Grasshopper with rounded corners would be functional and cute.

Mike...

That hatch looks like a head basher, that was the reason I came up with my hatch/hinge design.

Hey guys...

That's why I'm sharing this stuff early, to make sure we don't miss stuff like this.

You guys are my design review team... :D

And I think you're right... it's too low...

So where do we go from here?

How about barn doors & a small canopy? Vs the lift up hatch?

What if it hinged down like a tailgate to become a good sized counter. Maybe a strap or cable in the center to hold it up. or some legs to the trailer frame.
That would leave all the inside space to stow stuff. But you would lose the rain-sunshade of a hatch.

With a drop down It could even be a bed for a child if you add a tarp.

If I were going to 'feed' an Astro van again, this is what I'd have...AWD and the split / lift gate .

How about that sort of upper lift and drop tailgate?
