Question - largest foamie/hybrid built?

Postby daveesl77 » Wed Jul 20, 2016 11:25 am

Hey all, so I got this question a while back and meant to ask it of everyone...what is the largest foamie or hybrid foamie that you know has been built and/or in use? I know of a couple of 6x10x5, but not anything bigger. Has anyone built something like a 7'w x 16'L x 6+' tall, either as single system or hi-lo.

Thanks in advance

dave

GPW's FoamStream must be in the running (unless it does not qualify to your standard of being "in use"... arguably it is fulfilling its intended purpose as a stand by bug out shelter, er go it is in use, but that is a technicallity :R ).

Mel's/atahoekid's hybrid is pretty wide and relatively long, but not overall that huge.

Great catch KC, I should have put "built and/or in use". I'll edit it. My neighbor was just wondering how far folks have taken the concept. I told him I saw no reason for any reasonable limit, as long as it can withstand the wind and shear forces.

Hi,

My foamie is 12' long on a 14' frame (hitch to bumper), 76" wide and the walls are about 75" high. It has a dropped floor so I can stand up in it.

Goes without saying but I should say it anyway, it is on a 1968 tag a long frame which is heavy compared to the HF ones.
The design is tall and wide for a foamie so I made the floor and lower cabinets with 3/4" plywood and attached them very well. Any thing higher up inside like shelves and small cabinets are lightweight 1/4" plywood to keep the overall center of gravity low.
It tows well and is very comfy!

Thanks!
The pics are from a while ago. At this point I have the drawer fronts on and some curtains almost done, and of course the outside is awaiting some kind of a hip paint job.

They are used rv windows and door. I put an ad on craigslist asking if anyone had some jalousie windows from old campers and got a reply from a guy that had saved the parts from a bunch of rv's. Great price and really lucky they were made to fit 2" thick walls.
The little awning windows by the bunk I had to make because I couldn't find any small jalousie ones.

My apologies, it appears that I am hijacking your thread Dave!
Are you thinking of building a large foamie?

I'll start a thread on my own at some point.

Mercury is 13 feet by 6.5 but still just 4 feet tall. The roof is at eye level.

My neighbor was asking me about sizes, which of course got me thinking (dangerous to do). I love Conch Fritter, but also thinking about building something like a Scotty, out of foam. Haven't had the nerve to bring the idea up to the wifey yet, I enjoy being able to walk too much :D
