Mounting floor to frame

Is there any reason why you should not mount your floor material directly onto frame, with out using a wooden spacers ?

Nope. I'm using just canvas and foam in my new floor. The top most layer will be a piece of nice vinyl. All held together with bolts and washers

Only thing I can think is that it could create a moisture trap. With metal against the floor it could create a rot issue. I was going to mount the floor directly to the frame, but have since decided to install a 2"x2" piece of wood between for a spacer. It could be a sacrificial piece if need be. I plan on finishing the bottom of the floor with roof sealer. Then install the 2x2 and caulk all edges to the floor to keep moisture out of that contact area. Then cover 2"x2" with roof sealer. Then mount to trailer frame. I could use a 1"x2", but decided I wanted a bit extra height on the trailer to allow a bit more clearance in the wheel wells.

Good luck.

What kind of plywood did you use for the floor (exterior grade/ pressure treated/ regular/marine grade ) ?
