I discovered the same thing when I was replacing some rotted wood (what little I used) on my foamie project. I had to peel back the canvas, and the spackle came off in chunks. So much so that I had to peel back even more canvas and get it all out of there to improve adhesion.

Back to the original topic, I didn't use dowels to join panels, but I did use bamboo skewers every 10 inches and taped the seam while the gorilla glue dried. I laid the panels on their side and weighted them down with bricks while it dried. Four years later they're still strong.
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross the road without having his motives questioned.

Papi, we were wondering what would happen if we mixed the lightweight spackle with a little TB2 ... It seems the spackle is just a filler and not sticky at all ..

I apply light weight spackle thin, then sand, then apply Gripper repeat until the proper depth is achieved. The layering helps keep everything together.

I used a mixture of spackle, TB2 and foam sawdust as a fairing compound. It goes on a little chunky but did seem to be a lot less fragile than spackle alone. I'd have to look back in my build to see the specifics and any other comments/observations I may have made.
