Door latch

Postby Tempest » Wed Feb 08, 2017 11:53 pm

Hoping to place an order soon for parts. Looking at this door latch but wondering if there will be enough foam left for support when it is installed in a foam door. Thoughts ,suggestions, advice?

Temp , you might want to place a well protected piece of wood (?) where the latch will mount ... What we did , it was easy ...

I used the same kind of latch in my foamy but my doors had 1/4' plywood sheathing over a foam core with solid wood around the edges. You'll have to section in solid wood to support the latch. I don't think foam and PMF alone will hold up over the long term.

Thank you. I was planning on putting wood in for the hinges but didn't actually think about the latch area. I'll plan on installing wood there also.

I went into quite a bit of detail in my build thread showing how I added blocking and made router templates to cut the latch and bolt openings for that style of door latch. Made custom striker plates from SS because I didn't like the cheesy plates that came with them.

I just spent a fair bit of time searching thru my build trying to find the pertinent entries, but gave up before finding them (sorry, it is a big thread and I haven't built an index for it yet).
