Interesting Clamshell - is it foam?

Postby WizardOfOdds » Fri Aug 18, 2017 3:02 pm

I posted a link to the video of this trailer in my “Unusual Designs Found on the Internet” (page 6) thread of the “Non-Traditional” section, but that thread is not intended for a lot of discussion of a particular trailer. So I am posting it here in hope of getting some informed comments and opinions from experience “foamers”.

I find the trailer very interesting, but also a bit puzzling. There is no information provided in the YouTube post, but it appears this trailer has a foam structure. This belief is based on the apparent wall thickness and light weight. The side panels appear to use a FRP external skin. (Look at the side wall as the camera looks into the door opening at about 1:48 on the time line.) There are some dimples in the interior skin (e.g. at time mark 0:58) which also suggest foam cores and perhaps some point anchors).

But other parts of the body appear to have a smooth (metal?, fine weave canvas?) skin. Of particular interest are the two corner pieces he installs. What are they made of? At first I though maybe he used vinyl corner beads, but that does not seem to foot the bill. Finally, what do you suppose he is using for the edge beads (look at the door opening) and corners (like where the roof meets the sidewall). Looks like either metal or vinyl to me.

The resolution was not the best but the pebbled outside skins look like FRP panels to me.

Neat little camper.

With the way the lid folds down and around the front with plenty of overhang it looks like he may have solved the problem of wind driven rain coming in through a forward facing hatch... maybe.
