And now a peak at what I've done for the kitchen area. Pretty clean, simple, modern Scandinavian?
It was recommended to me by the Swedish bikini volleyball team.
Wanted lots of storage, cabinets and counter but with minimal stove and sink.
Laid an all plastic laminate for durability and waterproof on the floor. The leftovers went on the counter and took care of that dilemma of what to put on the counter that would be tough and durable. Sheet of metal under the cooking and food prep area for durability and easy clean up as well. Raised the sink for easier access.
This section is approx. 8'*24", with 4' for the seating lounge area and a middle aisle of 28".
The cabinets are as simple, cheap and light as possible. Three 2*2 glued/screwed horizontally to the wall, floor and along the front. 7/16 ply for counter top, 3/8 for sliding front face. Some reinforcement for sagging, that's it.
Light, cheap and easy, win, win, win!
Er, I mean, it's the latest interior design trend from Europe, and now for foamies!

Plus the horizontal studs reinforce the outer side walls and the upper shelf cabinet does the same, with the back vertical wall and cabinet boxing the mid area for increased structural ridgity. Ideally, hopefully, definitely.

The full mid section has a matching counter on the left as well. Functional for work bench area or any other use. Counters, lots of counters. And storage
And this shows the current pondering and predicament, what to do with all that wood? Clear, stain, paint or some combination? Then what color if any at all.

The bright lights mask the details in the ceiling, made a compass rose with the existing truss supports that fit right in with the look. If you're going to have exposed framework, why not make it look nice? Form follows function. Haven't decided on clear, stain or color yet.

Pull out tote slides out for shower pan, simple shower curtain and garden sprayer complete the setup. With this method, can take a shower with 1/2 gallon of water, no pump, tank or drainage required with this small a quantity of water to deal with.
Quick, fast, cheap and easy, takes no space.

Same counter surface on both sides, half metal and half plastic laminate. Tough and durable. If I have any solvent or paint work, metal will be ideal for that.

So I pondered, thought, tested about the wood finish.
And then I pondered, thought and tested some more finishes.
Here's what I came up with, Navy blue stain over a silver base. The grain comes through very nicely, but that last coat might have darkened it a tad too much. It's always difficult to stop and know when it's enough.
My attempt at a deep, quiet calm color tone, does it work?
I'm already deeply and calmly pondering my color choice and next steps.

Close up of the grain and finish. Not bad, now to clear or not to clear, that is the question.

So I've laid more cloth on the walls to cover the styrofoam. And incorporating design elements as I go along.
Astroliner has a great design theme of early 60s futura rocket style which I love and find fabulous. If I had an unlimited budget, would have went golden age of train travel style interior. So far, it's looking like it's going to be contemporary modern. Simple and clean flow, with decor additions. I make it up as I go along,

For my cloth layup, using a cheaper glue which I found works great for cloth. It's a flooring tile, latex glue that comes in at around $11 a gallon. Henry's commercial tile vct adhesive found at Lowe's. Little thicker than TB2 and has a long setup time that it remains sticky for hours, can peel and adjust when laying fabric. Didn't know for sure if it would work but decided to try it. Turned out great.

Durability and temperature testing will be ongoing.

Thought I did, what specifically would you like to know?
It's thicker like pudding, doesn't flow, made to trowel on, takes about 2 hrs to become tacky. Then apply your cloth. Used a paint brush to apply, water based so washes off and with water. Has some odor, but it's minimal.

Some things are just Fate. They help you make decisions as you progress through your build. Being at HD and Lowe's all the time helps and always checking their clearance and mistints.
So today I'm painting my drop down tables. What color to paint them or finish type?
Well when you get a gallon of good black Rust-Oleum paint for $3, one decision less to make. Black goes well with everything and this paint is durable, goes great on plywood, requiring no primer or sanding. Two quick coats baked on in the AZ sun.

An update on foam and it's insulation value. 4" styrofoam is probably considered allot but like anything, there is the law of diminishing returns.
So fyi, here is a look at real values and benefits.
Today the outside temperature reached about 64 with the inside maxing at 80 for two reasons;
1. On cooler days, park the windshield facing the sun to maximize solar heat benefits. Free heat!
2. Did a bit of cooking which raised the temp from about 76, comfortable temperature.

So here's the temperature at 9 pm inside, 72, currently 59 outside. Lost 8 degrees since sunset or about 3 hours, approx. 3 degrees per hour. Winds picked up in the afternoon in the 15mph range. 39 degrees is forecast for the overnight low.
Let's see what the reading will be in the morning without using any heat source whatsoever, except body heat and breathing.

Note, bear in mind that the walls and roof are 4" foam with the floor being 1.5" plywood which is fairly high, open and exposed. Currently the largest heat loss area. Minimal air infiltration, no windows, minimal heat loss attributable there.
