Just getting ready to primer and paint my canvas which is now glued onto the foam.
I am planning on using exterior latex, but I am curious as to what type of paint people have used as well as the type of finish and why (ie. mat , eggshell, semi gloss, gloss)
Any existing links or help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My first four coats were "opps" exterior matte latex. Final two coats was matte exterior latex tinted to my final color. I did not prime. TBII and canvas soaked up first coat or two with no problem. The rest of the coats were to get the subtle canvas weave texture I was looking for. I always prime bare wood. No need with glue saturated canvas imo.

I have been using Valspar Bonding Primer and Valspar Storm Coat Semi-Gloss in my builds and have had good luck with them. I like the semi-gloss paint because it is a bit shiny and is easy to clean. I have found that the paint is pretty durable since I have had to clean mud off my trailer a few times now and it still looks great once it is washed down.

Behr Premium Solid Colour Waterproofing Stain & Sealer - Deep Base No. 5013, 3.79L
I used this stain from Home Depot, urethane-fortified 100% acrylic latex.

It was applied to the deck of my deck over and weathered very well and is water proof!! So decided to use it for covering up the canvas, with a 25 year guarantee is should handle this application with ease.
