As from 1 July, smoking is illegal in all enclosed public and work places here. Brits tend to get a bit obsessive about applying laws and the government advertising campaign has shown some interesting examples - for example, at least in theory, all business-owned vehicles are now 'work places' and so smoking in them is illegal even if you're on your own! Business-owned convertibles are exempt, when the roof is down, as they're no longer enclosed.....
The best I've seen is a surveyor who has put in his terms and conditions that customers' homes are his work place when doing a survey and so they are not allowed to smoke in their own homes for two hours before as well as during his visit. He has asthma and intends to apply this requirement for real. Nevermind not getting paid, I reckon if he insists on this that the risk to his health from getting a sock in the face is greater than the risk from smoking.....
