Steve, that is both the sales hype and the actual performance...I have tested it previously and that is what it works out to...sometimes in the early evening or morning it will be a little slower and quite often sites have a slower speed than what I have which causes a slowdown....

That test shows mine at 4819 down and 490 up. A little slower than what it usually tests but still not bad.
I generally see the same thing Jack does, I wait on sites to load because of slow servers but rarely if ever due to my connection being too slow.
The norm between cable and DSL is DSL will generally show faster upload speeds than cable but I've never seen it download faster.

The thing is it's usually a matter of what's available in a particular area that dictates what you get.

I'm on DSL and consistently get just over 6 Mbps (6000 Kbps) download and 720 kbps upload.

I'm on DSL it's running 2100kbps down and 342kbps up right now... kinda slow. At night may get close to 3000kbps.
Some of you cable guys are getting twice that... :awesome:

I'm using what used to be SBC DSL. I got a call the other day saying that they can reduce my bill. I thought it was a scam but then the guy said that he couldn't do it and I had to call ATT and asked to get "Re-Rated"

Has anyone done this? If it was a scam, it would be apparent as soon as I called ATT. I will proly do it this weekend.

I just did the test and my bandwidth is between 2.25 and 2.5. I am supposed to be pretty far (9000ft) from their router.

I used to be on dial-up from a local ISP (USA Datanet)...then I had some health problems and the director of the division at work decided that he wanted me to have broadband at home, and a company laptop, so that I wouldn't have to drive in on the days when chemo was too intense. So at home I've got RoadRunner broadband. I have a wireless modem and a wired one--but prefer the speed bump I get from using the connection hard-wired (nearly twice as fast as wireless.) Both my personal laptop and my company laptop have built-in wireless...priceless when I'm travelling. :thumbsup:

Now that I'm feeling lots better, I offered to switch the broadband to my own name...but the division decided that it was too valuable to have me on 24/7 access, so for the time being, they're still covering the bill. I'm so used to the speed now that I'd never go back to dialup.
