Bringing the Kids along?

Postby MikeDrz » Tue Mar 06, 2007 1:47 pm

Ok who brings children with them?

Just curious about humans not Canines, Felines or Plastic Flamingos! :)

Going to try to get to some meets this year and inquiring kids want to know. ( Mine are 8 & 10 )

if you do bring kids.... leave a post a reply so we know where you are!

The two kids are grown now, so I'm hoping to take my grandaughter soon. She just turned 1.

Michael,

My vote is that if your children are well behaved, and you have the energy to deal with them while trying to relax and enjoy the trip, you shoud bring them.

______________________________________________

The parents who can't, or won't control their children because they resent having to deal with them, and thus either let them run loose or constantly scream at them, should not bring them.

_____________________________________________

I have been bringing my daughter, currently age 13, to camping events for several years.

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/1948rob/spring%20mill%20trip/chef1.jpg?t=1173227245">

When my other children were still living at home, they took turns.

What really determines if they go or not is their interest in the whole affair.
I have no interest in dragging one of them on a trip they don't want to be a part of...

On the other hand, if they really DO want to go, it can be a great experience for them.
I'm not talking about "the family camping trip" they are fun too, but rather the one on one trips, where the child can take on all the responsibility they want.
My daughter loves to go with because mom is at home, and she is allowed to "be in charge".
She plans meals, does shopping, cooking, and general camp chores of her choice.
(When she cooks, I do dishes...not my choice, but gotta be fair).

The joy of all this is that she is there because SHE wants to be, which makes her a perfect camping buddy, and partner.

Allowing a child to make a campfire all by themselves, or cook breakfast, or whatever big chore, is something they will probably never forget.
The one on one conversations can be exceptional too, no brother/sister/other parent to interrupt, or make them bashful.

Listening to your child tell you about their dreams and plans for the future is pretty special.

Eastern events had kids

Postby Guy » Tue Mar 06, 2007 7:58 pm

Dear Mike,

The Tearjerkers conneticut event had kids there. The place they hold it in Mystic is conducive to kids, with a pool and playground.

If youy are on the west copast the just get the campsite next to Gage's. He camped out in his family's teardrop so he certainly would not mind at all. :D

well put... and no... we are not the types to let the kids run amok.

That one we will go to for sure... 45min drive, and we are Mystic Aquarium members. Look for the Yellow Cargo Conversion. Man it needs a name.

We have always camped with the kids - we are down to three now. We have found that we just need to find a place with good swimming and/or fishing and they are happy.

My campin' partner is my grandaughter "Brandie", She's been camping with me since Momma was carrying her and then again at the ripe ol' age of 2 weeks.... She'll be 11 in June and will be my right-hand at ITG#2... Hope she can meet some of yours there!

Aw, but not true. I went camping with my parents and grandparents all the time but didn't get to sleep in the teardrop. I had my own little tent to sleep in. Besides who wants to sleep with your parents when you have your own little tent. Do you know how much you can get away with when your mom or dad arn't there to tell you to be quite, roll over and go to sleep.
