Door Size

I was just curious How Tall and Wide do you want your TD Doors.

Also it it Square or Rounded off?

Build it big enough to get in and out of comfortably. Mine is 2' wide by 3' tall and works well for me. Square or rounded I dont think really matters whatever you think will look best. Square is easier to build.

As large as you can make it without it ruining the overall look and proportions of the tear.

Round or square, whichever looks best with the shape of the tear.

Cardboard boxes, cut into different shaped/sized doors, will be a big help in making a choice...

If you are thinking about a traditional sized tear, start by looking at a 30" x 40" door, and adjust until you think it looks good.

Thanks for the replies I was wondering what the average size is for door I guess it depends on how big you want it. That is what is great about building a TD your self.

No kidding, I need a much bigger door now than I would have 40 years ago. Design it for appropriate entrance exit for y our particular needs. Me, I'm pragmatic so fergettabout looks. A door's made for to get in and out of. (lovely syntax, right?)

I thought maybe mine were tooo small but nobody is having any trouble getting in or out, most of all me, with the 24"w by 30"h.

Mock something up out of cardboard or scraps to see what you might like........

.

Plus having a window in each door and two windows up front seems to make everything feel and look roomier!

I do believe that mine is 36" wide and 40" tall. I just wanted a large door.

Like Dooner mine wound up 36 x 40 with all 4 corners rounded to a 4 1/2" radius. (Used a 9" dinner plate for the corner template.)
I cut a pattern and hung it on the side profile. Moved it forward moved it back moved it up and down finally settled for what looked good to me and old what's her name. Then used this mock up for the pattern for both doors. The rounded corners look good with the rounded tear styles but it's gonna be a bear to trim out for a nice look.http://www.tnttt.com/gallery/image.php?image_id=26570

Most are using the foam mattresses just wad and shove.
I was cheap and found a nice pillow top queen so just before I closed up the nose I shoved it in. I'll probably need wire cutters and a hacksaw to ever get it out.

I am in the figuring and head scratching stage so this thread is useful to me.

About how high off of the top of the floor should the bottom of the door be? Level with the floor or raised up a bit?
