My first 'real' driving experiance was in a 1952 Cadillac Hearse, with a clutch, on a hill, at a red light, during rush hour! :? :?
Later, wrecked it and couldn't find a new front end so it went to the junkyard.

15 years old, army reserves, an old deuce and a half in traffic through our city on the way out to the local sandpits for some training in army off road. The tester the week before had gotten tired of actually taking us out for real road tests so I was just asked - Which vehicles do want on your dept of defence license, I got the deuce and a half and the 3/4 ton Dodge I think it was. Totally got me hooked on 4wd vehicles. However I only drove motorcycles on the road with a proper license till I reached the ripe old age
of 22.

I guess I first learned to drive a boat as a kid growing up in Florida but I fell in love with my first car er.. truck. It was a '65 Chevy pickup, short box, step side and a screaming 283 v8. I spent the better part of high school under that truck in the drive way. I'm pretty sure that was the plan my parents had when they got it for me. I guess it kept me out of trouble - for the most part. I wish I had a picture of it...

I was first turned loose on the John Deere 40 when I still had to get out of the seat to reach the clutch and brakes. After proving myself on the John Deere, I was allowed to drive the Farmall M. First thing to drive with a windshield was a '56 Ford F360 flat bed with a 5 speed. I was probably about 12 when they started letting me drive the truck on the road (got my liscense at 14), but I know I was driving the John Deere to the little country store about a mile down the road when I was still in grade school, to buy my dad a pack of Lucky's and myself some penny candy, all for only a quarter.

'65 Chevy C-10 pick-up, 3 on the tree.

I was 12 at the time and nearly took to the ditch.

DW(Pat) learned in her neighbor's '57 Chevy Bel Air, also 3 on the tree.

I learned to drive at age 12, in Ford Courier with a 4 spd manual.

I didn't drive an auto until age 22. Well, except for that week of in car "driver's ed" when I was 16.

My first car was a 66 El Camino with 3 on the tree. Speed shifting dude!

I bought my first car before I had my drivers license. I first learned to drive it in my back yard. It was in a 1969 VW square back with fuel injection. I loved that car!

1976 Monte Carlo
Drivers Ed in my junior year in high school.
After that it was a 74 Toyota Corolla with a 5 speed. I remember stalling it a good number of times.
