tags and trailers

Postby raprap » Mon Jan 21, 2008 5:36 pm

 In a discussion at the Shiveree at Brown County State park this last weekend, prompted I guess by the 2 bob's special apple pie :R and Dutch oven stew :D , was a query on how many trailers do you have and how many license plates tags do you have ---I (apple pie bob) have four trailers and one plate, since all my trailers are small and effectively are interchangeable under the draconian utility trailer registrations of my state. Dutch oven bob uses a similar strategy. Prohandy, on the other hand, is inherently compliant and has one tag per trailer, whereas Scott apparently only has one trailer and one tag and complies under necessity.

Nevertheless, this prompts a general question among the masses. Since it is only possible to tug one unbraked trailer at a time in most states, and since tongue boxes tend to obscure tongue serial #'s (if they exist at all) and axel serial boxes are inherently masked by design how many of un's double up (so to speak) on tags and trailers.

The way I figure it there's three answers, "yes' , "no" , and "I plead the fifth." ;)

Only one trailer & about 10000 tags, none of them registered to the trailer.
The impossable just takes longer & cost more.

No tags

Postby doitright » Mon Jan 21, 2008 9:02 pm

Here in TN we do not have to have tags on campers. It may one day cause trouble some day in another state that is why I keep a copy of the state law in the camper. I would love to find a 1959 TN state plate one day and I will use it. I could get regestered tags so I would not have any trouble but why spend money if I do not have to. That goes with my guns bought before the goverment got into it. Another way to think of it is I am helping the goverment by not overloading them with paper work,my money, or my name on another list.

The canoe trailer says boat. My truck tag says truck. My car tag is a car tag. Missouri has neat law, if they can't see the number or your obscure it they take your trailer. I like my TD. besides the fee here is cheap.

Oh yeah, guess I should get someone to rivet that number on they gave me.

One trailer, one tag. It's cheap, so I don't care. Now the car tags are what's expensive.

I have two trailers and two plates. I would never think of cheating the State out of their #%@&*& money.

Your gonna love this - 6 trailers...6 plates. Now the county has gone and added a wheel tax on all plated vehicles! :x Dang, I gotta sell something!

I'll have to say I had two utility trailers and never have had a tag on either. I tried to get a tag for one of them once , when i lived in Mississippi. The two women at the Tag office began argueing with each other as to how much the tag would be since the trailer is a three axle. I just left. That was about 10 years back. I still have that trailer and still use it. Even stopped and asked an officer in Little Rock, Arkansas for directions about two years back. Guess I need to get a tag on it. Will

4 trailers, 3 tags. The one without the tag is not currently road worthy. It will, however, be stripped down and the frame will become part of my new TTT. Once completed, it will get it's own tag. We have permanent trailer tags in Michigan. Buy it once, never buy another one, but don't get caught with the wrong tag. Besides, who has time to change them all of the time. I have better things to do. Just take a tip from the Boy Scouts. In the Scout Law, "Trustworthy" is the first one. It's because it's the hardest one. Get that one right and the rest of them are easy. Peace.
