I have 2@ 425E's (old), 1@ 425 (new), 1@426 (3 burner, old), 1@Coleman 2 burner propane, and 1@ single burner butane stove.
The propane & butane burners are very efficient, but I prefer the liquid fuelers.

Guess how I voted? 14 lanterns some back to the 20's and 11 stoves, some also back to the 20's. An 8.50 can of WalMart coleman fuel goes a lot further than the 1# propane bottles for the money in my opinion. It ain't camping for me without the hiss and smell of white gas, and I don't mind the pumping....my cardio workout! I did see a repackaging on some Coleman fuel today. Now convenient "quart" size...unfortunately it was the same price as a gallon of the can stuff. It was in a Safeway up here and they jack it up anyways, but still....that's a bit much. Doug

mostly propane these days for us. Still have all the gas stuff though.

Doug, I saw those resized ones at Walmart too. Just WTH is that all about? Gee, lets see...a quarter the fuel for 95% of the gallon price. What a great price for convenience-Not

I've not gotten sucked into the old gas stove collection hobby...

So it's a propane grill or stove, or the campfire...

I use propane for my stoves, one old Coleman with a propane conversion and the new Camp Chef oven.

My galley stove is butane (Iwatani). I either cook on that, or on a Weber Smokey Joe charcoal grill.

Propane.

I like using Coleman gas for the smell, the hiss, and the fond memories of childhood camping trips, but in general, my goal while camping is to take it easy and avoid working any harder than needed...propane leads to that end.

Camp Stoves

Postby Wild Bill » Tue Jul 28, 2009 8:45 pm

I have used white gas and propane, I bought one of the bigger camp chef's on close out when a sporting goods store was going out of business, 50% off of 99 bucks was a good deal to me. We use them with the boy scouts and they have the btu's to heat 5 gallons of water for dish water fast and will hold a 15 inch cast iron Skillet for a 2 dozen egg omlet. But for cooking a couple of Eggs and Sausage the little coleman white gas stove goes a lot longer and are cheaper to operate than the little cylinder stoves at $2.50 for a cylinder. When I do use propane I hook up to a 10 or 20 lb tank, lots cheaper, 14.99 to refill locally. Still like to drag out the dutch oven and charcoals now and then for a peach cobbler. Bill
