I used an Aluminum on the roof & gally lid and wood sides. The Aluminum is outdoor sign material, available at Any local shop that makes outdoor metal signs.

My trailer is skined with aluminum. The next trailer will be either aluminum or stainless roof with wood sides.
Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Ask yourself these simple questions every time you are in doubt about any action.

Although I'm not there yet, it will be painted aluminum. With a white truck and a white jeep, it just seems like the right thing. I've seen several and like the looks.

I used .032 aluminum with white baked-on enamel. Made a great looking Tear.

Thanks Mike.
Its a crank out canopy for over the door of a big class "A" Motorhome. Seems the manual ones didn't sell. Heaven forbid a Class "A" Motorhome owner should have to go outside and turn a crank manualy.

BTW..on my new tears I used .032 & .040 aluminum "sign material" as well. Looks like a good Humor Tear.

I recently found out that the (very thin) sheeting I got from my friend for free, was not at all aluminum. I sata piece on the ground and a magnet (who knows where that came from) was sticking to it when I picked it up.
I think it must be some kind of metal sign material. It wasn't that heavy and very thin, so I figured it was aluminum. Guess my tear would be much lighter with aluminum. Oh well...it was free!!

The sign industry uses a material called Paint-Lok sheet metal....it has a surface that is supposed to allow the paint to bond really well to it with little prep work...I'd be willing to bet that is what it is....Paint-Lok has a surface that isn't really shiny...but a dull gray finish...it still needs a top coat however...good score on the free material... doug

Cool! Sounds like the stuff. One side is brown and the other is a dull white (putting the white up at the moment). Plan on painting it with Armorpoxy, I think. Black to match the truck. They also have clear. too. Might be a good choice for final finish, or even Clearcoat.

Mine will just be white paint over the plywood skin. I'm in Florida and white is the only option I ever considered. Just try sitting your bare bottom on a seat made of shiny aluminum after it's been sitting in the sun for a few hours. Then try it on a white seat in the sun for the same amount of time. I'll bet you can stay on the white seat, but not the aluminum one. I proved that 40 years ago with my kid's swing seats. After I painted them white, they could sit on them in the summer to swing.

Sometimes I pretend to be normal. But, that gets boring...so I go back to being me.

I used FRP on ours. Couldn't be happier with its performance in the sun and its real easy to keep clean. But, I sure like the look of the woodies....

At the risk of hijacking the thread, there are some grand pictures in that Google image search you did, Ron. I particularly like the teardrop RV, courtesy of Vespa:

Though I don't think even Roly would fit in there.
