Bumpers you put so much in do you protect it.

The Box Kite has several pc's of wood on the back to protect the back from a slow hit.

Do you have a bumper on the back of your trailer to reduce some of the impact?

got any pictures of crashes with TD's so we can learn.

Got a better idea please add below.

If you have multiple trailers similar to a TD or TTT put them below as to what you did to improve on the bumper area.

No bumper

I didn't build my trailer, and 65 years ago when mine was built, they didn't think a bumper was necessary.

Adding one would be a major PITA because of the "shin barking" effect.

In 65 years of camping, and storage, no one has backed it into anything yet, nor has anyone run into it yet.

What is PITA.
My concern is more that with texting, and the kids being taught to drive by a relative (who may have forgotten the basic rules) formal drivers training has gone out the window. In the past week we have had 2, 16 year olds total their cars in once case 3 died. I live in an area where there are not that many cars. And I do realize that a bumper on a trailer does little to protect a trailer in a fast moving accident but any protection from hitting that back door we call a galley. The picture above made of wood will not heart you shines but a metal one might.

You do have a point many trailers have not been hit maybe because when driving down the road people see it and are more admiring it. I have seen very few trailers of any size dented but I am sure there are stories too.
Thank you for your comment.

I think I've seen more with bent up front ends from getting a tow vehicle into the front end...especially with a tailgate down.

As a kid I left the truck topper open to pull out a fishing pole and dad backed the 64 Kenskill into a site....guess what punctured the rock shield on the trailer? I also set off an M-80 and the shrapnel from the can it was in dented the side of the same trailer. I was tough on that one. Before dad passed on...we had the discussion concerning that sort of stuff and actually had a laugh on it all. It did take 40 years however. Doug

I've been pondering the installation of a vintage automobile bumper onto the back of my 4' wide teardrop.

I guess a re-pop VW bumper would work (and without the nerf bars); I believe Ron mentioned one earlier... before I start measuring things I don't presently have in my possession, would that have to be narrowed?

The width of a 70's VW Beetle is: width mm1585 inches 62.4

there are different styles of bumpers as shown at http://www.jbugs.com/

in most travel trailers the bumper is a empty tube or square tube that holds the septic emptying tube. It could be used for holding wood or charcoal or poles for an awning!
