Important information Ref. section

Postby Ron Dickey » Mon Aug 16, 2004 2:16 am

I have seen many ideas and information swallowed up in messages that will not be seen again untill someone asks the same question.

I Think Mike should offer a special interest Ref. section that offers info that new people and old just need for the new or next teardrop / tiny travel trailer building.

This section would be locked. And ref to it would need to be entered in General or other sections.

We could enter "in vote it on the board" or might think of adding to the Ref. section. We could vote in on or Mike could have a panel of experience trailer builders to say yah or no to.

Is anyone here good at writing FAQ? We could create a FAQ an put them on the weekender page so they wouldn't get swallowed up by messages! Volunteers?

I think it's a good idea, but the information is already here. I used the "search" option the other day, because I couldn't remember where some information was and it worked very well. I think the first thing we ought to show a first time member, is the different shapes, then building techniques, followed by electrical and wiring. I'm pretty new here myself and I would be willing to help out, but remember.... I'm just starting to get a grasp myself. What about using moderators, for different sections?

I'd say an FAQ would be the best. If its well organized then a search facility may not be necessary.

I've used the search several times and always get great results.
If the FAQ section was extra large you'd still have to do a search.

Just thinking.

I came up with this idea when mike offered a drawing of tung length depending on size of trailer and want it where all could see. He like many of you offer really good Ref. material.

It might include a how to on ther research section.

This is a very impressive forum that Mike has started. In teardroptimes it had been going on forever and I brought up a question that someone remembered had be used before found it and brought it forward but it would have taken me the life of a bloodhound before I read it all.

That is why a teardrop Ref. page was thought up. And if I came up with it you know I am also a volunteer, but you have to remember. I will not even start my tear until Jan. I do good research and might find somemore suggestions that could be put on such a Ref heading. But I do beleave it should be locked and refured to at different times when the question comes in.

So thanks for responding I was not sure if I would get shot down. So at least I know it was somewhat of a good question to suggest.

I'm not new to building things, but I am new to building TDs, and I think it would be a great idea to have some of the basics in one place where they would be easy and quick to find. And it would save time from reinventing the wheel every time a basic question is asked.

PHP FAQ module

Postby Turtle49 » Sun Aug 29, 2004 5:19 pm

Mike I was looking around the phpbb site and found this module:
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/catdb.php?cat=51 Scroll down till you see "[2.0.8] FAQ Editor".
This should allow you to modify the FAQ section for the phpbb bulletin board and add teardrop info. I haven't added it to my site as it says it was written for phpbb 2.0.4 or later and I'm running 2.0.3. I plan to install it later after I upgrade my board.

Hope this helps. 8)

For the FAQ I'd just like someone to type up a simple word document. I think it's more important to get the information organized in an easily used program (Word or Wordpad). That makes it easy to update also.

I could use a Wiki, but then I lose the strength of the thought process of 1 individual to organize the chaos that bb's are!

:D
