Also interested in the Grumman 2, but am Schetchup illiterate :( . Do you have any other Grumman 2 Schetchups completed. The boss and I are a little tight on a queensized mattress but king sized is working great. Maybe some interior drawings, or frame or? Thanks Doug

The Grumman II sketchup file is posted above. All you have to do is download it and then open it in Sketchup 8. You can make it as wide as you like, but you will have to make sure the frame and axle are the right width for what you are building. I do not have any measurements outside of what is listed on Andrew's website located above in the Design Resources. You can also get measurements off the sketchup file. This is the link to Andrew's Grumman II design that I copied to make the sketchup file.

http://www.angib.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/teardrop/tear55.htm

Andrew's drawings do have the frame layout and dimensions that you can use to determine the axle size. If you want to make it wider than you will need to do the math to figure out the size you need.

I drool over Angib's site often, and it's complete enough for my purposes. I was just wondering if you had other views or detail views. You may have and I'm just not Sketchup literate to find them. Thanks for the reply though. Dooug

I can post different views if you would like. You could watch the video series on how to create a teardrop in SketchUp that I created. By the time you watch it all you should have a pretty good idea of how to use SketchUp, plus the Grumman II is the trailer that I created in the tutorial.

Dan please can you help me.

I am trying to create fenders similar to the ones one have on your model but with an angled leading edge so they mirror the TV but sketchup wont let me fill or pull the object i have made. It seems it doesnt like objects that have angles in 2 planes

I think I have an idea what you are talking about. If you could post a paper drawing of what you are trying to do I think I could help. Just not 100% what you are trying to do.

I looked at your photo album and seen your tow vehicle fenders. I believe I understand what you are wanting. I made a quick sample and will post a picture. It takes a little work to create it, but not to bad. I can try to explain it if you want, but will do it over a private message as it is fairly long.

Dan,

I have been having a play with sketchup to try to learn it. I have been looking at the Grumman 2 plans at http://www.angib.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/teardrop/tear55.htm and I can see where your measurements come from but I also take it from the plan that I use a string to draw the shape.

Does the shape produced by Sketchup match EXACTLY the shape produced using the string drawing method?

Just wondering about the transfer of the original image to a template. The string method looked very easy but no use if not an exact match.

Thanks for your tutorials.

Just watched these videos over the weekend, very helpful, thanks! I had drawn my TD design in sketchup but was having a heck of a time "organizing" it. The way you used layers was great, and I've now created a couple different scenes which can be played in order to get a good overview of the entire thing. Thanks again for sharing!

I am glad the videos helped you. There is so much you can do with SketchUp, I learn more everytime I use it.

I did not create the plans, I only copied them in SketchUp. I do believe that the shape would be very close, but can not say it would exactly match. You can plot a grid pattern on the SketchUp profile and transfer points to the plywood. This is what I did when I laid out my trailer profile.

Didn't think of the grid overlay. Thanks Dan. Another thing to learn in sketchup.
