Northern Tool 5x8 Trailer Model

Postby _Ryan_ » Thu Jan 24, 2013 9:23 pm

I have some experience with SketchUp and during my planning stages created a model for the Northern Tool 5x8 trailer. I made the original model based on the dimensions gathered from the web and this forum. Once I ordered the trailer and had it assembled I filled in the missing measurements and completed the model which I have uploaded here.

Image

Almost everything should be correct. Trailer width, length, frame thickness, cross member placement, tongue length and width, wheel location, deck height (top and bottom), and about any other measurement you will need. The wheel style is not correct and there are a couple cosmetic differences, but all important dimensions should be dead on.

This model has been a big help to me in my design and I hope it does the same for some of you. Enjoy!

Cheers,
Ryan

P.S. You will need a program called SketchUp in order to view/modify this model. As long as you are using it for personal use you can download it for free here: http://sketchup.com/download.

Thanks Ryan, I managed to get it down loaded and have the picture of the frame. Have not had a chance to find the dimensions.

Big thank you for this model, I'm doing the virtual build since right now the 'real world' build would give me frostbite!

For a first timer I chose to use the NT 5x8 as well. Thanks much for your posts! Great sketchup!

I just sprang for this NT trailer. I'm hoping all the component parts are still the same size(s) three years later.

Thanks to your efforts/skills, I'm now set to begin some serious design work of my own.

Cheers

Thanks for providing this model. I was just about to start working on my own. You saved me a ton of work. BTW, I simply dropped my TD design onto your model and it looks great. It took me 2 minutes. I am still working on the concept but have the trailer model makes visualizing the whole project so much easier.

Thanks Agaim

I've tried Sketchup before, but :x It's a lack of patience! I wish somebody did personal Sketchup training in my kitchen on my computer...

Anyway, thanks for doing this. It will be a big help for folks trying different layouts. Me? I'm still in the build it and chuck it mode of learning curve :)

I have to agree the Sketchup takes some learning. It is not really intuitive. You need to start on something simple and build the comfort level slowly. You Tube has a lot of introductory training videos that are helpful but nothing beats practice. If you are just doing one project, dedicating the time does not make too much sense. I am using it a lot these days for various projects.
