Harbor Freight 1720# Trailer Model

Postby FastEddie2 » Mon Mar 25, 2013 1:22 pm

So since i got some vacation time to burn, i decided to get to work on my trailer. Its been sitting in boxes in the garage for about 3 weeks since I have been to busy to look at it. So i spent the other day laying out all of the pieces and measuring everything on it. Then since i needed new brakes on my truck, i sat at the local Starbucks and started drawing all of this out. I plan on documenting everything on this build and planning it all out in sketchup. I'm pretty experienced with this software and autocad so i'm going to try to share what i've done. Here is just a sneak peak of what i have so far. Everything is laid out with close to 1/16" measurements. Im going to start a build thread once ive got my design done and started.

Ok, here is the sketchup file. The only thing that may need to be adjusted is the track width of the wheels. I haven't assembled mine yet so this is just based on observations and some searching on the internet. As i work on it more, ill make sure its updated.

Not sure if this will help you, but it can't hurt to share. I took out 2 cross brace's and installed them inside the side rails bridging the seam. Then I moved the axle back about 6". This strengthened the frame and added extra steel under the axle. I was making a drop floor in my build, so I left an opening for that .

Great job!

Only thing from what I see is the tires are a little far away from the trailer and its missing is the fenders.
Might be worth adding them. I know I use them as a reference point and delete them later on.
