Need someone good with Sketchup....

Postby JazzVinyl » Thu Dec 26, 2019 6:11 pm

Hello tnttt peeps...

I have an idea for a foamie. I am awful with sketchup. Anyone, hip to sketchup, willing to take a stab at making a CAD drawing for me?

It will be super simple, no galley, a one man, 4x8.

Appreciate!

Hello Tony....

I do not get this in my browser. All I get is spinning circles! I use Linux and the Firefox browser. I have yet to see _any_ such interface on the Sketchup site. It must use Adobe Flash?

There may not be a Sketchup version for your system. My post was a link to Dan Lott's Youtube series on how to design a teardrop using Sketchup.

Yes, I realized you had linked to a youtube video. I tried Sketchup on my Wife's Win 10 Laptop...

The 'free' interface on the Web is awful The video must be using a downloaded fat client (meaning you have to install it, rather than use a web browser).

Guess I will just stay with my graph paper and protractor :-)

Just tried the video on a Win10 laptop using Chrome..seems to run fine. Click and go, no special handling required.

Sketchup doesn't make a Linux version. There is a Sketchup for the Web option that will work.

I just saved that! Awesome. Seems it's a while between using Sketchup and it's a great refresher! Thank you!

Thank you!

It's how I designed my last build.

But you shouldn't thank me, thank Dan Lott. The guy that uploaded those. He's the guy here that shared his gas strut file.

I originally worked on Sketchup with my design (self taught) and then was told by a CNC company that I'll be using to cretae them in Rhino (a proper CAD programme). They have free 90 day trials and whilst the learning curve is bigger, working in Rhino is far easier.

I am a mechanical engineer by trade and use solidworks / autocad at work, but too expensive for home use. I have found that between Onshape (3D) and nanoCAD (2D) I can do almost anything I could on the full price versions. Both are free and easy to use if you are familiar with drafting. :D
