Video series on how to create a teardrop in SketchUp

Postby danlott » Sun Mar 04, 2012 12:25 am

I made a series of videos on how to layout and create a teardrop trailer in Google SketchUp. I used the free version of SketchUp 8.0. I have not had any formal training and there maybe faster/better ways of doing this, but this is what works for me.

I based this trailer on the Grumman 2 design by Andrew, which can be found in the Design Library under the Design Resources at the top of the screen. It is not an exact copy, but you should get the idea.

Hope you enjoy and learn a little along the way.

Good job. Nice of you to do this for everyone.

I use Inventor, but with this new forum dedicated to Sketchup, I went ahead and downloaded version 8 so I could have a look at what you all are doing.

Not sure that I will bother to learn how to draw with it, but I can sure appreciate the service that you are providing by creating this tutorial series. Good on you!

Great tutorial Dan.

But I learned with a plywood board, T square, triangles, rule and drawing tools. Don't know if I will ever change.

I still have my drawing tools that I used in High School back in 1966

Well I am done for the most part. May make a few follow up videos, but the major parts are finished and you should have a pretty good idea how to use SketchUp by the time you have watched all of the videos.

So much easier watching tutorials when the video is actually making something you want to make. Loving this. Thanks so much! A ton easier than stumbling my way through the process and hoping I discover what I'm supposed to do.

I am reaching the bandwidth limit on the Screencast website, so the videos will probably stop working soon. I am looking at converting the videos from SWF format to something that I can post on YouTube. Anybody have any suggestions or maybe a good converter program that you could convert them for me?

I have a few different converters that I use. Adobe's Media Encoder is probably my favorite and should work pretty effortlessly with SWF files (although I've never personally worked with them before). I'd gladly try converting them, but just not sure how to get the files from you to me.

I wonder if Vimeo will allow SWF videos...hmm.

If you use windows, you can use Windows Media Encorder 9. Of course you then have to do the videos all over again and capture them as you do them. Not sure on the length that you can do for each though. Have not played with it much at all yet.

Camstasia would work too, I think. Or the free version CamStudio http://camstudio.downloadasaurus.com/

Just a couple suggestions.

I have converted them iWisoft. It did a pretty good job, but did leave a small icon in the upper left corner. Not to bad though. I am posting them on YouTube and will then update my original post.
