Thoughts on filon

Postby elcam84 » Fri Jun 23, 2017 9:51 am

Lookong way ahead... Found an ad on craigslist for filon sheets. 4'10 wide by up to 10' long. As well as other sizes for $20 a sheet. Some bigger sheets as well and ones with scratches are free...

Whats the thoughts on using it for a teardrop. I have not worked with the material before. Seems like a thin version of FRP to me. Looking online it looks like the stuff can roll up so it cant be super stiff.

Also im NW of Fort Worth and the material is in San Antonio. So if anyone local needs some of it i have a 10' trailer and we could get material for both of us and make the trip worth it.
I can post the link if anyone is interested.

Atomic77 used it on his Astroliner Build. He knows composites, too, so there is good info there.

I used filon on both of my tailers and its great. Installing it so it doesn't oil can is a little tricky but other than that it can't be beat. That's a great price a $20/sheet, I think I paid around $3/sf? Do a forum search on Filon and you'll find a lot of good information.
