Titebond III on top Titebond II

Postby maulte » Wed May 13, 2020 10:46 am

I got two Gallons of Titebond 2. I am thinking I will need at least two gallons more. There appears to be a shortage of Titebond 2 in Canada right now and ordering online will be $100/Gallon(with duties and shipping). I can get Titebond 3. If do PMF base coat with Titebond 2 can I put Titebond 3 as the second layer, or will it stick to each other? Or can I Mix Titebond 2 and Titebond 3 together make Titebond 2.5 :-)

Dried Tightbond 3 doesn't stick to itself. Tightbond 2 does adhere to itself.

At least, that's what Tightbond has said in the past. I don't think you want to mix it, but I'm guessing.

$100/gallon sure takes the P out of PMF. :frightened:

My only other options is to use 2 gallons of Titebond 2 I already have do 50/50 of water and glue so spread it out further. Then just put extra paint on it.

You might want to read this write up on how repairable different glues are. "Reparable" in this case meaning, "How well does it stick to older gluelines, either the same glue or different glues?"

http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread. ... Repairable

[sorry about the bit rot on some f the photos in that link. It's been a few years.]

TL;DR — Nothing really sticks to cured PVA glues, except for good epoxy, including other PVA glues. TiteBond, TiteBond II, and TiteBond III are all PVA (polyvinyl acetate) glues.

Sorry, I just saw this..........
Test but, inho, use any good quality latex paint.
It should work well enough for the application.

I can tell you this much about Titebond. When you glue two pieces of wood together it's never coming apart. All of my build I glued and screwed everything together. I made a mistake and 15 minutes later it wouldn't come apart. Ended up ripping a layer of plywood off. I'm giving Titebond 2 thumbs up lol
