Aluminum Options

Hi All,

I'm trying to find what aluminum to skin my 5x9 TD. The walls are 10' with all the curves. I'm hoping to find some aluminum in colours but having a hard time.
I found some 4x10x 1/16th anodized aluminum but pretty expensive. The company only has flashing in 36" widths (.024 thickness).

For those that have colourful skins, what thickness have you used and are you using 4', 5' or wider sheets. I would not want any vertical seams in the walls. A 48" width sheet is good enough if I also add diamond plate at the bottom.

They also have 1/16 aluminum diamond plate for reasonable price. I'd like to add a piece in front/bottom of the trailer like many others have done. I'd also like to add 6" or so on the bottom of the sides. What thickness do you guys typically use?

Also, anyone have suppliers to recommend in the Montreal, Canada area.

Thanks,
Spiro

That's standard for teardrop chip protection. It works fine.

The normal thickness for aluminum sheathing is .040". Good luck in your search for it.

Here is where I purchased my siding material from. I could not find anything local so I had them send me small chips to verify the color before placing the order. I had it delivered to my office, they said they will not deliver to a residential address. I went with .040 siding thickness.

Yes, what about stainless steel? Anyone see anything wrong with using it? I just saw a local ad by me of someone selling. Any cons to stainless? Any pros??
Thanks

I've read the most put epoxy on the wood before skinning with aluminium. How many coats to do you put and how much epoxy do you need for a 5x9?
I see references the "the mix". What is this?
Are all epoxies the same? West Systems 105 seems the most popular. When applied is it a thin coat or does it go on thick?
Thanks

Anyone else have any insight as to where to get 5 foot width aluminum? I tried to contact the link listed above, Alumet, but dead email links.

Any other ideas or places???

Thank you.

I bought my aluminum from here -- Boston, MA

https://www.riversidesheetmetal.net/sheet-metal/

They had the best prices I could find, I think it was about $80 per 5x10x0.032 clear anodized. I cut them in half and put them up in 4' sections on the roof. not a big deal, one full seam and one partial because it was broken up by the ceiling fan. At the joints I used 2 rows of 1/16" x 1/2" wide VHB, about a 4" overlap. I held the first row back about 1/4" from the edge and packed the gap with lexel. No leaks yet.

Found it...

I've been calling around (and around and around) looking for painted aluminum sheet in the midwest with very little joy.
Coremark (https://www.coremarkmetals.com/aluminum-sheet) has 4x8 and occasionally 4x10 .040. Mostly mill finish but they do have some painted (white)
https://metalsupermarkets.com can get 505x series stuff, but it's thicker and mill finish only
and then I stumbled onto Grimco (https://www.grimco.com/info/Locations/minneapolis)
GRIMCO MINNEAPOLIS
5261 Program Ave | Mounds View, MN 55112
ph.800.542.9941 | fx.800.760.5575
Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
The person I spoke with was very knowledgeable, and was able to supply both 60x120x.063, and 48x120x.040. Prices were fair, and free delivery in the TC metro. They also have offices all over the country. One thing - you do need a business account as they are technically a wholesale only company selling to other companies. The nice person on the phone set me up with an account and happily took my money, and they will even hold an order for 30 days before delivering.

Hope that helps someone else!
