I just got back from 2 weeks in the mountains of West Virginia. My AWD Mazda CX-5 didn't complain a bit about my 800# loaded trailer.

I'll be using my '75 Ford F250 to pull mine. This thing has pulled everything I've asked it to and it does so without issue. Seems a bit overkill for a teardrop but I love this ol' truck.ImageImage

I've been using my 98 Grand Cherokee to pull around my 6x10. The Yeti is her name and she loves the mountains.

I have a rebuilt 42re Trans with a 16,000 GVW Trans Oil Cooler installed. There have been a few mountain passes where I've been in 4wd High and in second gear with the trans temp near 225* F, but all has worked out really well. Im glad I did the rebuild with the trans oil temp sensors in the pan, out from torque converter, and back in from the inter cooler.

If anyone should care to look or is interested in my Jeep build thread at another forum website on the web:

I'm towing with an inline six cylinder 4.0L in the Yeti and she's taking it like a champ!

I went to the IRG Grand Finale this year, and there was a Toyota Tacoma gathering hidden in there somehow. It seemed like about a quarter of the TVs were Tacomas. Including mine.
I'll burn that bridge when I come to it.

I tow with a 2006 Miata. Just got back from a 2850+ mile trip, averaged 21MPG. There are two types of hitches, one attaches between the bumper and unibody, and the Curt attaches deep onto the frame rails, I have the Curt its very heavy duty. Teardrop weights 850empty including spare tire and a big battery. If I had made an alum trailer frame, it would be 100lbs lighter.

I too tow with a 2006 Miata. By actual count, according to Google maps, I've towed a Little Guy Joey 28K+ miles over the last 6 years. I too use the Curt hitch; no doubt it is the best. Occasionally the hitch question come up on the Miata forum and I always say if you plan on using it for anything besides carrying bicycles, get a Curt. I average 22-24 mpg. Do you also find the irony in using a huge machine (ie: large SUV or pickup) to tow what is by definition a tiny travel trailer?

Right now... Toyota Prius gen 3. Towing a Prolite Suite. Just my wife and I in the car (and the Coleman cooler plugged into the 12V socket). Bought the Suite in July, Went down to San Francisco and back for a vacation.

Image

Fuel consumption dropped from an average of 50mpg down to between 35 to 40mpg. Car didn't feel the weight of the trailer, but it certainly felt the wind drag at any speed over 50mph. Worst consumption was on the I5 on the last day - we wanted to get home, so I was driving at 69 to 65mph instead of my usual 55 or less.

Car had plenty of power at highway speeds or less.

Nothing exciting... 2012 Tacoma with a tow package (6500 lb rating) and and 2010 Chevy Express with a 10,000 lb rating. I think even if I overbuild, I'll be okay...

Excited to someday start towing, and stop designing...
Matthew.

lost, but enjoying it so far.

I have a 2012 Smart Fortwo Passion and I had a hitch installed. I am hoping to tow a really small camper with it. It could be like below.
