Racing Springs Fix Saggy Back End!

Postby Dusty Mark » Mon Nov 28, 2016 8:16 pm

My teardrop build ended up at 12% tongue weight (215 pounds) and was making the back end of my 2009 Subaru Forester squat pretty bad. The Forester is rated for 200 pounds of tongue weight, so it needed a little bit of help. I found some King springs from Primitive Racing that are normal ride height, but about 20-30% stiffer. Yesterday I installed the stiffer rear springs and new struts all the way around and my Forester is riding level again while towing! A professional alignment will complete the otherwise DIY project...

Nice. I've never used Kingsprings, but I know they're popular. Rallitek is another good source for Subaru suspension parts. I installed their overload springs and some suspension spacers from Subtle Solutions on an Outback I had a few years ago. Worked like a charm! Thinking about doing the same to my Crosstrek.

Same solution I used twice on the 01 and 12 Outback. And yes the alignment is necessary.

I used Airlift air bags inserted in the back springs in my Nissan Pathfinder. I can change the air pressure to compensate for a different tongue weight.
I like it, it works good so far. Install took about an hour.

Yeah, anything that eliminates the back end from riding too low is a welcome solution that is much cheaper than buying a "bigger" tow vehicle. Although, I plan to buy a mid-size truck after my Forester turns over 200k miles!
